On September 8th I had an emergency Appendectomy and an IV was placed along the inner side of my left arm just a few inches below my wrist. Today I just happened to brush my arm just right and felt a good jolt of pain come from the area where the IV used to be. I ran my fingers over the area and discovered a rather firm and painful lump under my skin which is about the size of a lima bean. Does anyone have any idea what this may be and do you think I should have it looked at by my family physician?

It [robably is an a "granuloma" an area of inflamed/ infected tissue around the vein. If you really felt a 'jolt" there could be a nerve root involved. If it really is painful and red t probably is infected and may need oral antibiotics. I would see a doctor soon for this prescription. Good luck

look, if it hurts get it checked out, your body built a little bit of protective area around a foreign object that's all, just like an oyster builds a pearl around a piece of sand or grit.leave it there alone.the only thing a doctor will do is surgically remove it.it is a scar inside, big deal ,but if it becomes unattractive, begone withit at a good price .doctors make 300.000.00 from things like this(a year)dont give it up.you may get a nasty scar on the outside removing it.think of it as your wonderful pearl and a nice story that you will for ever keep,i have a few my self.and a story for each.i have an ugly scar from removing one ,it is a cyst

Hmmm...it would desire to be contaminated or that is crammed with fluid (a cyst?) that could reason soreness by way of fact that is urgent down on the nerve. when you consider which you have edema (swelling), the an infection or cyst has grown better. If that is an infection, you desire antibiotic to therapy the priority. If that's a cyst, a physician will might desire to empty the fluid with a needle. the two way, you may desire to work out a physician by way of fact there is no living house therapy on your subject. solid success!

Try putting some warmth on it to see if it helps. I get scar tissue bad from IVs and some still bother me, but it should get smaller. If it doesn't in a few days, I'd have it checked out.

you probably have phlebitis: Warm, erythematous skin over an indurated or tender vein. It will go away with time.
