I'm looking for ideas to teach my 12-18 Months young toddlers class. I want to create or go-by a weekly cirriculum that is age appropriate and exciting! I have a book at work to go by, but it suggests working on crawling as one of the ideas...They already know how to crawl. I want my class to excel. I want to prove to the parents that their children are learning and that I'm not just a babysitter. Do you know of any FREE websites where I can get useful information? I have a low wage right now so I can't afford to pay for any programs or books, and I also have a family of my own...so not a lot of time to spend researching and planning at home. I'm pretty much looking for a website that is free and already has the themes and what to do already provided.

I am a lead teacher of a toddler room.

I like to do a book based curriculum.
You take a book like chika chika boom boom and infuse the classroom with all of the themes and ideas in the book. ABC songs, make a coconut tree, bring a coconut in to work and break it open, Take the c is for cookie song and put child's name in place of "cookie" when singing this give each child a flash card with the first letter of their name on it.

here are some more traditional
Themes

1.transportation
2.outer space ( do a lot of dramatic play activities) Drawing on shiny paper, have them paint a moon.

3. A week of messy play. Jell-o in the bin table, finger painting, playdoh
4. colors
5. shapes do a shape scavenger hunt in the room

I hope this sparked your imagination

They could finger paint with pudding, use food coloring for different colors. You could experiment with cut up fruits that they could eat, such as bananas and mandarin oranges for tastes and colors - kiwi, strawberries. etc. You can chocolate cover bananas. Blocks are a good thing for kids that age to build and play with. Books are great. Try to add a book to fit your theme. Miracle Babies are GREAT. Boy babies and girl babies I think are now acceptable in a classroom, they are probably too young to even realize. My kids used to play for hours in a big cake pan with cornmeal and matchbox cars, trucks and construction equipment. Hope this helps!

Dances and songs (with lots and lots of actions!!!), animals and animal sounds, foriegn languages or sign language (a REAL winner for parents of that age group!), experiment with blocks made out of empty milk cartons.

www.babycenter.com is a good place to check out for some ideas.
