its best to shop around Different websites offer different promotions, prices, rooms and etc calling the hotel itself is kind of a bad idea they gonna tell u the highest rate they charge. book it as soon as possible if its in a high traffic tourist area
here are a few websites i use.
www.hotels.com
www.kayak.com
www.expedia.com
www.hotwire.com

-----Consumer Reports has a long article covering that on pages 12-17 inclusive in the July 2004 issue. The articles include ratings of 50 hotel chains, from Ritz-Carlton ($150-$300) at the top to Travelodge ($45-$70) on the bottom. Page 16 starts an article entitled "Ten ways to get a great rate. Plus, the Web sites that save you money." By the way, I have stayed at Travelodge many times; it may be bottom rated, but I have always enjoyed my stays there. Sleep Inn, at the top of the "Budget" category, is nicer. It had a great breakfast free feed. You may be able to see a back issue at your library. -----Jim

Ok, I am a frequent traveler and hand's down the best place to book is Yahoo!Travel.com. Some will recommend other travels sites but if you compare all the rest to Yahoo!Travel, you will soon realize what I mean. Also Yahoo!Travel will create a package deal for you that will be much cheaper for you the buying airfare, hotel separate. Never call a place directly, unless you have a thing for talking to hotels.Doing this you will pay a lot more and you want get the best deals. As far as how far in advance, it depends on why your going. If its for a conference that is well attended book as far in advance as you can. But if you are going to visit or job interview 3 to 4 weeks early is ok. Also be sure to get booked on Tue,Wed or Thurs. The reason being is these are the nights in which you get discounted rates for you rooms. So for example you might book Thur-Sun or Tue -????, etc. just be sure you check in on one of those days. Neve Check in on Fri,Sat or Sun if you can avoid it.........

in today's world, you're looking at it sister. punch the keys, click those links and you can communicate directly with any decent hotel in the world.
and sure, i like the idea of calling to confirm. Probably should get started in the next few weeks for best availability and price breaks.

either online or call the place directly. when you book online, you can get discounts but then again its more hassle. when you call directly, you know right away if they have vacancies and such. you should book you stay at least one week in advance.
have fun at your trip and i hope this helps! =)

For deals, go to orbitz.com, expedia.com, hotwire.com, priceline.com. If you do, they don't always include any parking charges, and sometimes your special requests aren't included in the reservation... so if you have any other questions, you should call the hotel directly and ask.

Hi,
Try www.TravelByDeals.com.
There you can search all the top websites (Kayak, Orbitz, and other big one) in one search without having to go to each site individually.

Check the traveller reviews of your hotel at WWW.TRIPADVISOR.COM before you do anything. You may not like what you see.
