This is only referred to in one passage of the Bible, Revelation 13: 16-18; and is something received as a mark on the hand or forehead and identifying the recipient as being in subjection to the person and government of a future world leader referred to in the Bible as the Antichrist (see preceding verses; also II Thessalonians, chapter 2, and other passages, especially in Daniel). It is very likely an implanted chip, providing identification and conferring rights, but quite possibly something much more sophisticated - perhaps a direct computer link to a supercomputer identified in the preceding verses 13-15 as the image of the beast which controls or influences the thoughts of the person having the mark of the beast. As for the number 666 (literally six hundred, sixty and six) this is quite possibly the numeric value of the name of the person referred to in Scripture as the Antichrist. (Hebrew and Greek names have a numeric equivalent, since letters of the Greek and Hebrew alphabet also have a numeric value). If you are seriously interested in researching this, I suggest you read a book by Ray Kurzweil, "The Age of Spiritual Machines", wherein he describes (although I suppose unknowingly), the Image of the Beast (note that the word translated "breath" in verse 15 of Chapter 13 could equally well be translated as "spirit" - Greek: pneuma

The Number of the Beast is a concept from the Book of Revelation of the Christian New Testament. The Number is 666 in modern texts, although 616 and 665 appear instead in at least one ancient source.[1] The meaning of the most common variant 666 is still debated today. Some scholars contend that the number is a code for the Roman Emperor Nero,[2] a view that is supported by some Roman Catholic theologians...

I'm a preterist Christian (a rare subset of Christianity) that believes that Revelation ("the End Times") has already happened -- about 2000 years ago when the Jewish Temple fell and lost God's mandate of heaven. I believe we live in the (mortal) Kingdom of God now.

Preterists like myself generally believe that the Beast was man's government -- encompassed in finality by Caesar Nero. In Matthew 12:30 and Luke 11:23 we see Jesus saying "He that is not with me is against me," pertaining to both the Roman government as well as the "government" of the Pharisees -- the Jewish leaders who did not understand God's demands.

We preterists believe that the Mark of the Beast was not a physical mark but a spiritual one -- showing people who were subservient and supportive of the law and judgement of man (government) rather than of God. We also believe that the Beast was vanquished (man's law through the Romans of Caesar and the Jews of Pharisees) to be replaced with a new Convenant to all men who accept the ideals of Christ (most Christians would disagree, but I think they're wrong).

Those ideals of Christ are peace, love, humility the sacrifice. Be peaceful to everyone, even he who wants to kill you. Love all, even he who hates you. Be humble to all, even he who thinks they are better than you. Sacrifice everything if it means you keep the other 3.

I don't think so.

We are told it is on the forehead or hand.

It is the number 666 or 616 or something related to that number.

It is possibly an Aysrian, but that's hard to say for sure.

It is a carsimic person.

People want to follow this as much or more than Jesus. If that's a definition then the Beatles are the Anti-Christ! John Lennon once said they were more popular than Jesus!

Who knows!

Stick with God and Jesus and leave all the rest behind!

Revelation 16:2 reads, "And the first (angel) went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.".(King James Version)

We'll first address what the beast symbolizes and then consider the mark. From time immemorial, mankind has observed the characteristics and habits of animals and has applied them in a figurative or symbolic sense to persons, peoples, governments and organizations. The Bible makes good use of this effective means of illustration. There are many examples in the scriptures pertaining to the figurative use of the qualities residing in an animal or suggested by its characteristics.

BEASTS AS SYMBOLS OF GOVERNMENTS

Certain major world powers of history appear directly in the Biblical record and all of these, as well as other nations, have used animals as symbols of their governments. In Egypt, the serpent figured prominently, the uraerus, the sacred asp, appearing on the headdress of the Pharaohs. However, Egypt was also represented by the bull, as was Assyria. Medo-Persia used the eagle (the shields of the Medes bore the golden eagle; the Persians bore an eagle fixed to the end of a lance.) Athens was designated by the owl; Rome, the eagle; Great Britain is designated by the lion; the United States, the eagle. From the most remote times China has been symbolized by the dragon. Well known are the Russian "bear" and the German "two-headed eagle."

THE WILD BEASTS OF DANIEL AND OF REVELATION

That the beasts described in these books represent political kingdoms or governments, exercising rulership and authority, is clearly stated (Daniel chap. 7 verses 6, 12 & 23: Daniel chap. 8 verses 20-22 and Reveleation chapter 16 verse 10: and chapter 17 verse 3 and verses 9 - 12. A consideration of the Biblical passages reveals that, while these political 'wild beasts' vary in symbolic form, yet all have certain characteristics in common. All are shown as standing in opposition to God's rule by the Messianic Kingdom over mankind. They are also depicted as in opposition to God's "holy ones," his covenant people, first the Jewish nation, then the true Christian congregation. Those specifically named (Medo-Persia and Greece) were major world powers, and the great size attributed to the others or the description of their actions indicates that these too were not minor kingdoms. (It may be noted that subordinate kingdoms are symbolized by horns in some cases.) All the beasts are represented as very aggressive, seeking the dominant position over the nations or peoples within the reach of their power. Compare Daniel chapter 7, verses 17, 18 & 21; Daniel chapter 8 verses 9 - 11, 23 & 24; Revelation chapter 13 verses 4 - 7 & 15; also chapter 17, verses 12 - 14.

Many commentators endeavor to limit the fulfillment of the visions of the beasts in the book of Daniel so that it does not extend beyond the time when Jesus Christ was on the earth, at which time the Roman Empire was the dominant power. The prophecies themselves, however, make plain that they extend beyond that time. The final forms of the beasts are shown as reaching down to the 'arrival of the definite time for God's holy ones to take possession of the kingdom' in "the appointed time of the end." Then the Messiah destroys such beastly opposition for all time. Daniel chapter 7, verses 32-27; chapter 8 verses 19 - 25; compare also Revelation chapter 17, verses13,14 and chapter 19, verses 19 & 20) It may be noted that Christ Jesus expressly foretold that opposition to the Messianic Kingdom would continue into the time of the end, so that his disciples then preaching that Kingdom would be "objects of hatred by all the nations." (matthew 24:3, 9-14) This obviously does not allow for any nation, particularly world powers. to be excluded from possible identification with the final forms or expression of the symbolic wild beasts.

As for the mark; in these last days many governments demand what amounts to worship from their subjects, insisting that the State must be exalted above God or any other loyalty. (2 Timothy chapter 3 verse; compare Luke chapter 20 verse 25; John chapter 19 verse 15. Since 1914 it has become common for nations to conscript their youth in order for them to fight, or be ready to fight, the kind of total warfare that has so blooodied the pages of modern history. The nations have also produced, as a substitute for God's Kingdom, the image of the beast--the League of Nations and its successor, the United Nations. What blasphemy to proclaim, as recent popes have done, that this man-made body is the nations' sole hope for peace! It staunchly opposes God's Kingdom. Those who worship it become spiritually unclean, ulcerated, just as the Egyptians who opposed Jehovah God in Moses' day were literally plagued by sores and ulcers. Exodus 9:10, 11.

The contents of this bowl strongly emphasize the choice that lies before humans. They must suffer either the world's disapproval or God's indignation. Mankind has been put under compulsion to accept the mark of the wild beast, with the intent that "NOBODY MIGHT BE ABLE TO BUY OR SELL EXCEPT A PERSON HAVING THE MARK, THE NAME OF THE WILD BEAST OR THE NUMBER OF ITS NAME". (Revelation chapter 13, verses 16 & 17). But there is a price to pay for this! Jehovah regards those who accept the mark as being stricken with "a hurtful and malignant ulcer." (a noisome and grievous sore) Since 1922 they have been marked in public as having rejected the living God. Their political schemes have no success and they suffer anguish. Spiritually, they are unclean. Unless they repent, this "hurtful" illness will be terminal, for it is now Jehovah's day of judgment. There is no neutral ground between being a part of the world's system of things and serving the Creator on his terms on the side of his Christ. Luke chapter 11 verse 23 compare James chapter 4 verse 4.

There is no beast (as far as I've been able to determine), so since there appears to be no beast, then it is easy for someone to conclude that there is no mark as well.

It is a way of keeping up with people and a mark of some kind will be on the forehead or in the right hand. It will also keep up with all of your business, example: Groceries, banking, working, everything. You either take it or you don't eat or anything.

No one knows for sure, but I believe that it will be a microchip that is implanted into the back of our right hand or somewhere in our forehead. It would give instant access to our bank accounts, and prevent identity theft. We do have microchips that are designed for implantation into our bodies already. Also, our world is moving toward a cashless, electronic society. It all fits together.
