I hate to tell you, but the same thing happen to my spouse...she got to go back! that's the law...as of now...she is in violation and is illegally here...which she really can get into more trouble...now the wise thing to do is, apply for asylum...because she is from West Africa, she might get it! in order to apply for a green card, you have to to back to your original country and apply....sometimes one is allowed to come back to the US...but not likely...right now its very difficult....

If you really want to help her, you need to help her pay for an immigration attorney. She may very well have to exit the US and apply for legal status. You may also help her with arranging childcare for her child while she is out of the country, which may be several months.
An attorney can help you with all the particulars, and I would trust his/her advice over anything you get in this way.

Find an organization that can help with this by searching the web for immigration rights advocacy and include the city she lives in. Maybe contact the consulate but stay anonymous just in case.

she is now an illegal it would be best for her to depart of her own free will instead of ice arresting her and later deporting her will be hard to obtain any other r visa since she abused the privilege granted to her in the beginning, on personal note that is one reason its hard for legitimate student to come and study in the USA because assholes like your friend abusing the trust placed upon her by immigrations

When your visa expires, you are illegal. You must go back.
If you want to come back, apply again. Getting an immigrant visa is not easy !
