With all the religions in the world, and all the different gods, isn't it true that the only reason someone believes their God is the right one is because of where they live and what thier parents and elders have told them?

For TWO reasons : (i) His help to me in my life time this far...for my future ? Except that I turn back and see his goodness, I would not trust him to take me into the FUTURE ! (ii) Look at he state of this WORLD TODAY ! Who can explain why the world is it now ...problems that NO man could solve...not even GEORGE BUSH , the man who holds the highest office in this political world ! Brousing through the Yahoo! Answer/Questions , many have queried as to what Bush is doing with Iraq's situation...this nuclear testing by North Korea....and you name it for there are more countries in the future that the USA presidents would try to infiltrate their affairs...does he have a satisfactory answer ? NO !!! HOW DO I KNOW ? Because the GOD OF THE BIBLE has foretold these happenings over 2000 years ago ! ( Revelation 13 ) And more to that , the FURTURE OF THIS WORLD ...And WARNINGS of destructions to UNBELIEVERS but eternal life to BELIEVERS...ALL THESE PROPHECIES ARE FAST FULFILLING !!! So I have FAITH and HOPE on MY GOD ....he INVITES YOU TOO ( Revelatio 3 : 20 ) ..You should not be lost...It is very easy to live for ever....BELIEVE IN HIM ! ( John 3 : 16 ) ....Tell me any other gods , man or books that would satisfy the thirsty souls this world has...NONE... May God Bless

Just to clarify some points for those who say Christianity is the oldest religion...Islam is actually the youngest of the world's large religions The worlds large religions are Christainity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.

According to religious historians, Islam was founded by Muhammad the Prophet around 622CE (Common Era), or about 1,382 years ago in Mecca.

Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ approximately 1,971 (33CE) years ago.

Buddhism was founded by an Indian Prince Siddhartha Gautama in approximately 566BCE (Before Common Era), about 2500 years ago.

The oldest of the four main religions is Hinduism. Hinduism has the oldest recorded roots in Dravidianism. Dravidianism was estimated to have been practised around 6000 to 3000BCE and as such predates Sumerian, Egyptian and Babylonian cultures.

However I do not know why people insist there God is the only truthful God. Maybe it is ignorance, I dont know.

I was brought up in no religion, so your theory on this one is wrong. I believe without a doubt that there is a one true God. The bible is so full of information that the writers back then had no way of knowing. It most defiantly had to come from the God that they wrote about. The bible is a awesome book and God is very much the one true God, his English name is Jehovah.

You can never really know. Unless you believe in an afterlife, then you find out when you die. I think it is true that the only reason anyone believes in a religion is that someone older has told them to. They tell you when you are young because when you are little, you believe what they tell you. It happens in every religion.

I think we are in math class now. There quite possibly that ppl believe as they are told to (by their parents, teachers, etc.), but you cant deny the possibility that some other ppl are trying hard to get to know about God. They study the religions and the Holly Scriptures, taking into consideration scientific information, etc. They want to exercise their best efforts to find out about God. Dont you have somebody you know doing things like that?

Yes, people are influenced by their environment. But you're ultimately incorrect. Ravi Zacharias was born and raised in India. So according to your theory, he should be hindu. Yet Ravi is one of the most popular Christian appologists in the world today. He became a Christian because he found the message of Christ to be truthful.

People are influenced by what they think is true. In Ravi's case, he was influenced by what IS true. Maybe you should read his book: "Jesus among other Gods"

God is all one. It doesn't matter what name you call; you could address God as Krishna, Allah, Jehova, Buddha, Jesus, etc etc etc, but it doesn't matter, as long as you're calling.

As for your second question, I would have to disagree. I live far, far away from the place where my religion is "common", and my parents and I completely differ in religious beliefs. I'm a Hare Krishna, and I live in the U.S., and my parents are Methodist and agnostic. So there is my opinion. Peace.

Living people can only assume that they know that their God is the "True" God. Only when one has gone beyond this mortal frame of reference can the truth be known, until then it is all just a matter of faith.

Because I have Faith and I believe. Having Faith is believing even though it may not seem entirely logical. Parents do have a lot to do with it, but a lot of people will stray from their parents' teachings when they leave home.

I know mine is the one and only true God, because it is based on the oldest religion in the world and because my Holy Bible give me so many facts to reinforce my faith.
