I adopted her today, at first i noticed she had a real big belly! So did all the other pups. Looked as if they'd been eating to much! It looked as if they were leaving food down all the time, cause the bowl was big and full and they were eating as they pleased. I've heard a puppy can over eat if you leave to much food down , and get sick. SO later on this evening she started having diarreha real bad, like just running out of her!! After that she sarted throwing up. She threw up what looked like chunks of food, and then it got softer next time she thrrew up! Threw up twice!! I just wonder if she could of ate to much! She hasn't ate here yet, i tryed feedin her earlier but she wouldn't eat not even a treat! Now she is sleeping again. I am worried about her, and tomorrow i have to work all day til 5;30 !! I have to work and have money to care for her you know, but i hate going in with a new sick puppy !! I have no choose ! I will have to leave her in her porter, other dogs may hurt her

it sucks that you have to go to work and leave your new baby...sounds like she may have just overeaten. make sure you only feed her twice a day, dont leave the food out for her to munch all day, if her tummy still seems sensitive, rice cooked in chicken broth will soothe it, feed her that for a day or two, see what happens..if it continues, take her to the vet, she may have parasites. make sure she has plenty of water to drink, check to see if she has a fever, her nose should be cold and wet. if she has a fever, get her to the vet. some vets will let you drop them off in the am, and pick them up at night, but there may be an extra fee..good luck..

Hi,

I only have cats but I know "puppy chow" is like you eating at Mcdonalds everyday. It is crap food. Slowly break your puppy into either Iam's or Science diet food! Or a food that you have to go to a pet store to buy. A brand not sold in a grocery store. Mix the new food with the "puppy chow" and slowly convert to all of the new food. You can't convert all at once of your puppy will get sick!

Yes, a dog will keep eating if food is there for them.
Search the net on how much you should feed her.

My guess would be about 2 cups total, fed 2 times - morning & night for a large dog?

I think your puppys need lots of exercise and better food.

Puppies normally dont overeat. The puppy chow is crap food and she could have an allergy to it. I raise Corgis and only feed the best...Eukanuba. My vet always says that food allergies and sickness normally comes from cheap foods. Dont feed her for 24 hrs to let her tummy settle. Allow small quantities of water to keep hydrated. She is probably upset and nervous. Keep things quiet and pleasant for her. Its probably not the best idea to go to work and let this poor little pup handle things on her own. It is your obligation to nurture her. Keep the other dogs at distance and spend alot of time w/her. Once her belly settles try feeding a small amt of rice to get soemthing in belly that wont upset her. She maybe wormy and needs that attended to as well. Worms are deadly so get a stool sample and get her to the vet not to mention what she may pass onto your other dogs. Keep her stools picked up from the yard to protect the others. She may also have fleas. You really need to get her evaluated by a professional and then they can advise you on everything you need to do in a safe way. Also...this is a puppy and she needs her vaccinations. Its wonderful you adopted from a shelter but you need to go further w/this and take her to the vet. Best of luck. Also, she may go off her food for a few days cause of the new home and nerves. She will eat when hungry...dont tempt by spiking the food to get her to eat for this can cause diahrrea and her to always expect this not to mention adding to much protein or fat to the diet.

Sounds like she has worms, but the only way to be sure she gets proper treatment for whatever she has is to get her to a vet. I would call the place you got her from and tell them what is going on. If they are reputable, they will be able to help you with some advise, or someone to take her to.

Also, the symptoms could be related to the stress of leaving her environment. (Except for the big belly). Make sure she is at least drinking water so she does not dehydrate, which can be serious in a young puppy.

I hope all works out okay for you both.

Her belly could be bloated due to worms. Try to get her to the vet ASAP if the vomiting and diarrhea continue. Some vets have extended hours or there are 24 hour emergency vets if her condition worsens and you have to take her after work. If she is not eating, just make sure you can get some water down her in the mean time as you do not want her to dehydrate. Also, you should find out what the last owners were feeding, as a sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea and/or vomiting. You would need to change her diet gradually.

Check to see if her nose is wet and cold...
She may have eaten too much and just needs to empty her tummy, or she may indeed be sick...If her nose is not wet and cold that is a sign of a fever....
