My daughter is 2 1/2. I want to try to potty train her BUT she thinks her potty chair is a toy and she won't sit on the toilet. I know there's plenty of time and she's young.

I am a man, so I could use some motherly advice. THANKS.

if she doesn't want to use her potty chair then let her use the big toilet..

there is actually a toilet seat for kids that just sits right on top of the one you have..

take her every few mins at first .. and after drinks and meals ..

maybe during the day when your with her let her wear big girl panties .. if she wets she will not like the feeling..

this is not meant to be mean since if she wets the ofcourse after taking her to the potty she does clean up..

also there are training pants now that let them feel when they get wet ..

Patience is the answer ,, this is how i did it,, every time i went in i took her and let her try,, i showed her that this is what happens on the potty,,,
give her a reward each time she goes,,,
she will have accidents so don;t get mad,,
buy her some panties so she can see what and how they feel instead of those diapers,,,
don;t get the pull ups or things like that cause they think of it as a diaper,,,
if she doesn't like the kid potty you can get an adapter to go on the big toilet,, my daughter hated the potty chair but loves the adapter cause she is actually going in the potty

don't reward her with "gifts" praise her by saying good girl, you went potty like a big girl etc.

Set her on the potty chair or toilet and tell her to try to potty like a big girl. Keep sitting her on it every 20-30 minutes to start until she gets the point of it and understands why. after a while she should be able to tell you when she has to go on her own.

Also don't force her to be potty broke if she's not ready yet just keep trying she will eventually go on the potty---

Get her a poty without all the bells and whistles. It IS a toy if it sings and talks. Also get her the Elmo's potty time DVD. Kids love Elmo and he goes potty! Also, a friend told me that little boys should "aim" at cheerios and that little girls like to watch the color change from blue to green. ( Get a toilet cleaner that makes the water blue, blue + yellow= green) Girls like that sort of thing. One thing I've tried with our daughter also 2 1/2 is offering her a reward of some sort for just sitting on the potty. Then when she did that, she eventually just went and we made a huge deal about it. (Her reward is "big girl chocolates" M&Ms) Try whatever your child likes...stickers, M&Ms, whatever..PLus just be patient some girls just decide to do it themselves one day and never look back. Life goes by so quickly...at her wedding you'll wish she was still in those diapers!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I was going to suggest that you take her to the bathroom with you so she can be like Mommy, but being you are a man, I guess that isn't right. Well, you know now that I think about it, why can't ;you take her with you, but , very carefully, sit on the toilet and let her hear you pee, and tell her that she can be a big girl if she makes like you on the potty. You must praise her, and sit her up there and tell her what a big girl she is, and clap your hands, and tell her how proud you are of her. You have to make a very big happy deal over potty training. Good luck, Daddy.
My best to you and your little girl. Oh, also, timing after liquids helps alot.

Patience, a reward chart and a lot asking "do you want to go to the potty?" ... could last through the next 6 months so hang in there
