Okay, if you're wanting an inexpensive 1911 for target shooting, take a look at the new Taurus PT1911. It's a 1911 with a bunch of the "custom" features everyone always wants at the price of a base Colt. Also, Ruger makes some pretty decent semi-auto .45s. I'm also a big fan of the Walthers. If you're wanting revolvers, I'd go with either Ruger or Taurus. They even have models set up for target shooting.

If you go with a fixed-sited revolver with the interchangable cylinder, remember that the the point of impact will change when you switch out cylinders do to a change in terminal velocity of the .45 ACP vs .45 LC. Good luck.

Bound's hubby here:

If you are looking to carry a sidearm other than your issued 9mm, if you are issued a 9mm, technically you can't. So let's look at recreation type shooting for when you are home.

I would suggest a revolver such as the Smith Model 25/625 in .45 long Colt. This revolver is easy to control, it's accurate, and could be used for handgun hunting. You don't have to chase your empties which could aid in reloading your cartridges.

However, except for hunting, all of what you might want to do for target could be done a lot easier and less expensively with a .38 Special revolver.

Colt's Gold Cup 1911 is my favorite weapon.

Paraordince has a double stack 1911

Wilson Combat, Les Baer, Ed Brown 1911 are considered the best

For .45 in Combat Tupperware Springfield XD-45 is what I would go with

mIght look at a Ruger 45 colt replica. The 45 colt is not as powerful as a 44 mag. but more powerful than a 45 APC. It is enough for hunting deer.

You can also get a cylinder that will let you use 45 APC's for target practice.

For strictly hunting I'd get the 44 mag and skip the 45. For self defect the 45 APC is all you need.

Springfield Armory makes some nice 1911's, along with the XD45 in .45acp. (Not .45GAP)
The Glock is outstanding, but it is a larger frame gun, and harder to hold if you have small hands.
Olympic Arms makes some great little 1911's. Safari Arms Matchmaster is one of them. Outstanding little guns.

Also, I've heard wonderful things about, believe it or not, the Cobra Enterprises Patriot .45.

M1911... Like the Amry issued from WW1 to Vietnam

Colt stopped production i think. S and W makes a nice one

A springfield is a very basic model, still very good though. set you back like $400, maybe 450
Or a nice Rock River M1911a1 only $350, perfect for just shooting targets...

i wasnt going to answer but i saw one that i just had to comment. please for the love of God do not get a llama. those are the worst POS guns in the entire world.

anyways: for a .45 ACP i would recommend either the Springfield armory loaded, or kimber custom II. those are like the basics for each one. i have a kimber custom stainless II, best gun i have ever owned. out of the box accuracy, and modifications found on competition guns that cost thousands more.
