My family and I came here legally from Mexico. We were talking about the immigration situation and how different groups view it differently. For example, rich people mostly see illegals as hard workers and victims since the only contact they have with them is hiring them as maids, gardeners, etc. Latinos with relatives and friends from Mexico illegally or still in Mexico sympathize with illegals purely for emotional reasons (they dont want to see their friends leave). On the other side, people in the poor and middle class who work with illegals and/or live in the same neighborhood with them, see the consequences of illegals on a daily basis, have their wages lowered, crime rate increased, and feel that if they say anything negative they will be called a "racist".

Basically, the only amnesty supporters are a. those who are uninformed, and b. relatives/friends of illegals or even c. people racist against whites. What do you think?

I just read all the postings & quit a mixed bag. I dont agree with anyone who defends illegals because they are breaking American law. Young lady i salute you & wellcome you to america. May you enjoy this great land. You did it the right way.The illegals have cost me a small fortune each year because I am a small businessman who enployes Non- americans. I spend about $25,000 ayear making sure my people are legal. I check their papers(green cards) 2or 3 times a year.So far I have had no problems. I pay good ($12.50 to $23.00 per hr.)& I have very good workers.I could save money if I hired illegals but only short term. The turnover of illegals is great, about 21/2 years on the adverage where my non-americans(3 Canadians,2Mexicans,1 from Chile& 4 Indoniesions) have been with me for over 8 years & are very hard workers.

Very well said. I can only speak from personal experience. Where I live it is very hard to compete with companies who hire illegal workers. I am a house-painter by trade, and I am told most of my estimates are high. When I speak to other American painters, my estimates are low compared to theirs. That leads me to the conclusion that the masses of Mexican workers I see daily ( I live close to the largest, fastest growing retirement community in the U.S.) that these workers must be here illegally. I do not blame these workers for wanting a better life than they have in Mexico. I blame the employers who hire them. You mention that the rich Americans view them as hard workers and victims. They should, they are the ones victimizing them, and their fellow Americans by not hiring American. If this is racist thinking, then I'm a racist. I do believe if you come here illegally, you have broken the law. I feel for this group of people, but I feel for my fellow Americans more.

Wrong. Those are stereotypes.

The people who oppose illigal immigration are the people from all parts of society who love and respect America...who consistently obey the law-even when it is inconvenient for them and also when they think it might be unfair.
The people who rally on the side of support for widespread legalization of current residents are young and naive. They are easily led astray. I have compassion for their predicament, but I'm not willing to undermine my country's integrity and reward improper conduct.

If you were driving way over the posted speed limit and got a speeding ticket, would you readily pay it? Or, would you make excuses and insist that you don't deserve to pay $300 for driving 85 mph on the hwy? That's how you divide who does and who doesn't support naturalizing resident illegals.

Do you think you would feel the same if your family had come here illegally? Do you think your family would have waited to come for 10 or more years if their visas had not been approved? I don't know your individual situation or how your whole family came here legally. I do know how difficult that is to do so I would wonder about how that was possible. I know that it's EASIER for rich Mexicans to come than those of poverty level or below who so desperately NEED to come here just to survive.

As I white woman and an American citizen I saw my own person "rights" get trampled when I tried to bring my fiance into this country legally. When my right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was denied because of my husband's tremendous "CRIME" of over-staying his previous visa we made the choice for him to come illegally. I don't regret that choice at all. We now have a beautiful life together that we possibly wouldn't have had should we have decided to "WAIT" like the government wanted. Time is precious. Life is now. I wonder what YOU would have done in my position.

Either you are an adult or a very well informed youngster.

Either way, you have a mind and use it well. It is nice to see others who can and do think for themselves.

You have made your case and point very well. I agree with you!

Welcome to America. People need to get their emotions under control and talk about the issues. Just as you have pointed out.

the dropping averages in our schools
medicare
