I am selfish with my own personal time, but when it concerns my job or someone else's needs, I become selfless. It does bother me that I have to be that way, but I feel like I have to do it. I was just raised that way.

It's definitely more important to me to be selfless. But in some ways being selfless causes me to feel selfish, because to help another is really another way of helping yourself grow spiritually. So I guess it's good to have a little selfishness if it's directed in the right way.

Dumb question. Sorry. I'll explain. Humans are animals, really. Animals have survival instincts, a self-preservation mechanism embedded in our frontal lobe and adrenal glands that tells us to 'fight' or 'flight' (run away). We are, by nature, selfish.
Those in the animal kingdom that have been 'selfless' or altruistic, have suffered. They die out, starve to death or get eaten by prey.
Even 'selfless' acts are motivated by selfish reasons - ego, praise, self-satisfaction or 'being a good Christian' - which are essentially selfish, anyway.
There really is NO SUCH THING AS SELFLESS. That's why your question is dumb. Sorry.

Selfish people have a lot to give and selfless people have given it all. Who has the best chances of giving? Check the airlines, you must oxygen yourself before you oxygen your kid. You actually can´t make anyone happy if you´re not happy yourself, that´s why it´s better to be selfish.

To be just selfish enough to gurantee your happiness and security, and to be selfless enough to help others acheive the same things for themselves.

To me, it is more important to be selfless.
There are so many people in the world that are hurting more than I am, who have so much less than I do, and who are the most self-LESS people I've ever known. If they can give up their last cent to help another, can't I, being better off, spare my last cent, too?
