It depends entirely on what they think about, not when! If they think of something negative that is depressing to them, it makes not difference when or where...There problem can be helped as soon as they learn to leave those thoughts alone. There has to be something better to think about. Those thoughts are associated with some pretty severe emotion that was buried some time ago.. so in actuality become the facilitator of triggering those stored emotions.

its not daylight savings that specifically trigger depression but the shorter days... officially its called SAD - seasonal affective disorder .. any change of seasons can trigger it... usually spring into summer and fall into winter though

Light supposedly helps depression but sometimes I think they may be wrong about some types of depression I think the change of time gets you out of a daily pattern of the way u do things and causes anxiety

Seasonal affective disorder, mentioned by others, is a real phenomenon. Best help for this (if you can't move to the tropics) are special light lamps that trick your brain into thinking it's light outside (you can google to find them) as well as MD prescribed antidepressants. I'd start with the lamp first then try the antidepressant if that doesn't work.

It can due to the sun going down earlier-Light-which is uplifting to moods.Spend more time in the sun/light makes more Vitamin D which acts on the process that controls mood.

I don't really know. As far as I know, there is no scientific evidence to prove that theory. But it may be possible.
