If she hasn't paid you back yet - she's not going to. She's telling you that a purse and shoes mean more to her than you do. $300 is not worth the court fees. Tell her that her behavior is despicable! That she thinks $300 is more important that your child is beyond reproach and you're angry. Then don't say another word. If you see that money again, then good for you. But let this be a lesson - never do business with family or friends for that matter. Money is a terrible thing.

What you should do is take her to court because you need every penny that you make. She needs to be responsible for her actions and let her know that she shouldn't ask to borrow if she isn't going to repay it back. Hold her accountable for her actions and if you have to, make her pay more because it has been a year for you so interest does add up. Just tell her that she should have paid you back when she gets served with papers to appear in court!!!

Hound her about it. remind her. IF you had anything to do with what she bought, with that money, you'd have an advantage, and be able to confiscate what she bought. You feel bad because she's your sister. But she borrowed it from you, you didn't give it to her. When a person borrows from someone, that person has to give back to/pay back that person. To her, you are the person she borrowed from. She has to learn the responsibiilities of borrowing.

You have a right to ask her for the money back so don't feel bad. If asking for it back doesn't work then take the shoes and bag back or something else she really values and don't give it back till you have your money.

if you take her to court, you'll only get the money back if you gave her a check/money order AND if you wrote "loan" on the bottom of it. if you gave her cash, you're pretty much SOL, just go to mom, she'll put her in her place, besides, you'll probably have to pay court fees anyway.

Do what you think is best. I don't know what to tell you.
OOH! I have an idea! Next birthday of hers, say, my present to you is not having to pay back that $300!

kiss the money goodbye, and make it a point never to loan money to people who live beyond their means, cause they wont pay you back and will be offended that you even ask them to.
