Chastity is obsolete because of birth control. Chastity was essential when we were unable to prevent pregnancy.

It isn't totally obsolete, but considering 80-90% of the people claim to be religious and ALL religions advocate Chastity until marriage it is a statement about the state of affiars between people and religion.

Females are exposed to sexual innuendo,sex,and the pressure of sex at an early age. It's hard ti keep chastity in a society that sells sex like candy. It's ridiculous but true

It's not. Try telling all the religious folks that chastity isn't working. They'll tell you otherwise.
Chastity is sometimes defined as not engaging in sexual activity by circumstance. Not everybody is engaging in self-abuse.

because it's not really condusive to procreation of the species, so genetically we are predisposed to want to make like bunnies. Of course it's also in our best interests to hang about and find the "right" partner but we all know from experience that it just doesn't allways work out that way. I'm sure Mrs Napoleon thought he was a lovely man before he started his little conquest- then again, genetics is tricky. Or was that not what you meant?

We have become a society so dedicated to doing what we want regardless of the rules or what is virtuous - that sin runs rampant. The old saying if it feels good do it comes to mind.

It's not. But I agree, it is hard to find people. I've been to teen chastity conferences with many of my friends. I wish the media would support that kind of lifestyle more.

In human society it never was the standard. You only find that in religions whose members are dedicated to it. These days, the only large group where is it common is in JWs.

Because they teach sex education in school now as part of health instead of mom and dad telling the children the way it should be. If you do not tell them, someone else will and it will probably be vastly different from what you want them to know and could have significant holes in it.
