Hello
It's not unheard of for doctors to prescribe continuing doses of antibiotic. However, this does not mean it's risk-free. The user who commented on taking in Yogurt to offset the long-term impact on the 'good' bacteria is correct. There are other changes that can be made too. Drink plenty of water, check liver and kidney functions regularly via blood count and possibly urinalysis.
Most importatnt, though, find/stay with a doctor you trust. It sound like you are not comfortable with the doctor's direction here. This can cause stress to you, which can aggravate your condition, as well it can cause you to be less likely to follow the regimen, which can also result in an unfavorable outcome.
I will share an acne tip, for my 2cents :-) A product that I recommend is Acnomel. It's not a daily cleaner, but a spot treatment. It works great! If your local drug store does not carry it, ask the pharmacist and he/she can order it. It's inexpensive and lasts a relatively long time.
Another option is to ask about a topical antibiotic, which may be less troublesome.
Good luck :-)

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Many teens are taking long term antibiotics in low doses for acne. It seems to work, and my young family members are not showing any adverse effects. Several different dermatologists have prescribed this regimen in addition to prescription creams and soaps.

No,it is not safe to use antibiotics long term. There are good and bad bacteria however, antibiotics do no discriminate, they kill off everything.Acidophilus contained in Yoghurt will help put back the good bacteria necessary for a healthy stomach.

As long as you take them as directed and under a doctor's supervision you'll be OK. The danger of antibiotics is when you stop taking before you finish the prescribed dose and then take again-they lose their effectiveness but only in relation to virus caused illnesses for if the virus is not totally killed in your bodys when you stop taking the antibiotics the virus will then have time to adapt itself (change) so when you take antibiotics again they will not be effective--this does not happen in bacteria related use for bateria does not change to adjust itself to the antibiotics

A good diet can have a reverse effect on acne. Wholesome foods, no junk.
