Hong Kong was rewarded to the British under the Convention of Chuen Pi in January 1841. On January 26, 1841, the British flag was raised at Possession Point on Hong Kong Island, and British occupation began.
So, Hong Kong is 166 years old next January.

HK is older than that. Since 1800's HK already existed. Was a fisherman harbor at that time. However I think the British guy are very clearer at that time, before they finally selected HK as their based as colony, they (I think) actually did some marine survey and they understood that HK Victoria harbor is very very deep and no muddy water from Guangdong Pearl River delta area.
