I've been trying to cheer up a good freind of mine who recently had a workplace accident that severed and crushed his middle, ring, and little finger on his left hand. They were too damaged to save, so now he's less three fingers. He's been getting on OK with physiotherapy, but that's not was has him down. He was engaged to his high school sweetheart, everything was planned for the marriage and even some down payments were made. She decided to end the relationship, gave the ring back, and moved back to her mother's. She explained to me later that she couldn't deal with Mark's (her boyfriends) injury. She told me in her words that "he is damaged goods now", and that she wouldn't want to spend her life with someone like that.

Since then my buddy (who in all other aspects in a funny, good looking guy) has been trying to find someone else but he believes that this new imperfection is hindering him.

I think it's of sad that people judge so much by apperance. Was she in the wrong ???

It's sad that she is so shallow. I believe if you really love someone, you stay with them through good and bad. Maybe she was looking for an excuse to leave him. I can't believe she loved him and would leave him over something so superficial. Especially at a time he really needed her support. Better he found out her true colors now. I know he has low self esteem now, but he'll meet someone and realize it doesn't matter. Some people can see underneath the surface and see beauty really does come from within. He's lucky to have you as a friend. Just stay positive for him and he'll make it through. Best of luck to you both.

She sounds selfish and superficial, but at least she was honest. If she couldn't handle it, get out of it now. She may be throwing away the best thing she ever had.

Marriage is for better or worse, sickness and health, so if all she wants is the good times, then it is better he knows now. If I were him, I would be counting my blessings. This accident may be the saddest, but best thing that ever happened to him!

Yes she is very shallow and any one who does not get the chance to get to know your friend before judging him is just like her and tell your friend he doesn't need shallow women like that. So he lost two finger AND what is the problem.

'Damaged goods'..... really! Is she perfect? It was only fingers, for gosh sakes! And your friend shouldn't believe his 'imperfection' matters too much. It could surprise someone but, after getting to know him, it won't matter.

I'm sorry about your friend's accident and the way his no good b**ch of a girlfriend treated him. It's hard to see this now, but she did him a favor if she's that damn superficial. I wish him luck!

She was wrong but since she is obviously that shallow he is better off without her.
