In my opinion every person asking a question is taking the risk of getting bad advice and should be aware of that. If someone has what sounds like a serious medical problem, many responders tell them to go see a doctor. It is the responsibilty of the person asking the question to know that the advise being given is not from professionals.

I agree and wonder the same thing but in my I personally think it is the person answer the question not the web site. Unfortunately many people are looking for a reason not to talk to there doctor and it could cost them there lives.
For instance I once answered a question about birth control and if you could get pregnant while on it. Of course most of the answer said no but the truth is you can all it takes is that the pill not be strong enough for you or you skip a day or two. I was so outraged caused the women was having signs of that maybe she was pregnant. Anyway I understand and hope you know there are other people out there who take this just as serious.
For the record I don't think the web site should get into trouble because they don't tell the person to listen which person or to put there question on here.

The answers are just opinions of others, the asker chooses wheather or not to take the opinion as advice. However there might be a couple that would give wrong advice on purpose, after my opinion, I continue saying that they better see a doctor, if they tell the doctor that someone's opinion was to , then if the doctor agress, saying "yes that's right, told you what I would have said", then you got it straight from the doc. they can blame the doctor, can't they ? Always ask a doctor to confirm.

Now honestly, would you really take advise from someone on the computer when it comes to your health? This forum is great if you are looking for information, but MOST people do not come here looking for a cure. And if someone is going to take medical advise from an unknown person on the Internet, then they may have serious problems.

I believe some people are actually friendless or are afraid to ask people they know. They're lazy enough to not go to the library, look at a reference book or to afraid to seek proper medical opinions. They don't have the money available to them as many more fortunate people have and they seek advice from us, the ones they trust I hope but, I also hope they can differentiate between kooks and well wishers. I would hope they use intelligence while using yahoo answers and use them well. They do get a number of opinions and can choose. Good luck to all.

Ultimately, it is the responsiblity of the person seeking knowledge to take what's good and leave the rest. This is not WebMD, and all members need to know that going in. This is a buncha Yahoos sounding off.. some pretty knowledgeable, some goofing off, some who don't know their butt from a hole in the ground. And anyone who takes a post on an internet site as gospel takes their health and safety into their own hands. (or worse yet, puts it into the hands of some nameless, faceless stranger somewhere out in cyberspace.)
Whom do YOU want to blame?

I agree. I googled something about a numb spot on the surface of my stomach that hurts (I am 7 months pregnant) and the search came up with a link to a question answered here. Someone asked the exact same thing and the first response was, "Your baby will be stillborn". And like 6 other people commented afterwards saying not to listen to that person (obviously *I* didn't), but no one reported it or got it erased for being completely innapropriate...

I pretty much doubt it. You take each answer for what it is worth here. I don't think anyone would like drink bleach to cure a toe infection just because that was the answer they got on here. If they take all of this for the truth then maybe their mommy should shut off the computer.

Since nobody is selling advice or holding a gun to your head to take it , you have to be held accountable for your own actions . If common sense tells you "don't do it" , and you do it and get burned -you cannot blame others for that . A person giving his opinion on yahoo answers is just giving an opinion . Take it or leave it .

It's all "free" advice and often worth what you pay for it. The person taking the action has to be considered responsible.
Hopefully when someone does post something erroneous others will point on the error and suggest the correct information.
