my tattoo is on my lower back and i remember exactly what it felt like (it's only been six months) It depends on how you handle pain, if you've had anything (except ears ) pierced you can gauge your pain tolerance . My tongue hurt horribly and the tattoo was a breeze compared to that. Depending on the size of your tattoo matters too, if it's gonna be across your entire back you may want to think smaller. the amount of time you sit there can be more unbearable than the actual pain itself. It's always relative to what you have been thru, I've never actually broken any bones but i can imagine that hurts more than a tattoo. you are always gonna get different views because some people are more sensitive than others. most tattoo artists are very reasonable and can start off small to get you used to what it feels like and then do more. truthfully i left the tattoo place thinking it was not nearly as bad as i thought it would be it just took longer. I would never change my tattoo as long as you're happy with the design you should go for it. good luck!!!

The pain caused by a tattoo depends on two factors: personal pain tolerance, and location of the tattoo. If you tend to handle pain well, the tattoo won't be excruciating. It will hurt a bit, but it won't be intolerable. Also, certain places (like the inner forearm, back, chest, etc.) are going to hurt more because the skin is more sensitive in those areas. Others, like the outer arm, outer thigh, etc. don't hurt as badly. The lower back tends to be a sensitive area, but the pain shouldn't be too bad. You wouldn't see so many people with tattoos there if it was.

Lower back tattoos dont hurt as much as your lower back has more muscles and fat around that area than other body parts.
It will still hurt but it will not be to the point where it is unbearable.
So you should be ok.
Choose a great design, take good care of your tat, and enjoy it.
:-)
Tattoos are for life. so choose something you love and enjoy. The pain is temporary (and not that pain anyway), but the pride of your tattoo lives on forever!!

Hey you are not stupid!!! I myself have never had a tattoo but any tattoo is going to hurt bad. Just keep in mind that if you get a tattoo you can't have a MRI which realy sucks. I wanted a lower back tattoo but then I found out about that so now I will never get one. Any way,
best of luck!!!

Personally I would go for your chest right above your boob where your heart is. That way it's covered for work and it is in a good personal place. Lower back is not a good placement for that tattoo. Honestly if I were to get a tattoo in memory of someone else it wouldn't be about me, it would be something about the person who passed away. Something that was their favorite or something that reminds you of him but you should never get your own name tattooed on you, it just looks stupid like you are into yourself. You should get something that symbolizes your dad not what your dad called you.

Tattoos in general hurt to a certain degree. It is your pain threshold that limits you. As far as my opinion goes, I happen to like "Tramp Stamps". I call them that because almost every girl that I know, I have slept with and I find that the lower back tattoo is usually something to focus on and also a target. The most painful spot I have tattoed are my ribs and sides. i have plenty of tattoos all over my body and none of them hurt like the ribs did.

My first tattoo was on my lower back, and I will tell you, it didn't hurt like I expected it to. It still hurt, but it was a different kind of pain. The closer to my spine, it hurt more. My tattoo artist also told me that depending on where your nerve endings are, some places will hurt more than others. It also depends on if your artist has a "light hand" or a "heavy hand". Obviously, a heavier hand is going to hurt more than a light hand. Scabbing and pain afterward isn't as bad if the artist has a light hand. I say go for your tattoo, but they are addicting, you can't just have one, I have 2, going for more! =)

Well here's another one yet, everyone hurts different, so, go get the tattoo already and be done with i already. Usually people also use the excuse of not knowing how much it hurts to pussy out of getting the tat in the first place. So show some balls and get it. Pain is just discomfort leaving the body.

it hurts. I have the houston city outline on my lower back. Im a guy and have three other tattoos one on my rib cage (which hurt like hell) and the back was definetely not fun. I sat for four hours straight and still have another six to go. I know you said you did not want personal opinions on this but if you do get some thing on your lower back make sure it means something because they do carry the stigma of being trampish. My fiance got one on her lower back just like mine but so much smaller and i overheard some guy talkin about how she must be slut so i corrected him by showin him my tattoo and asking him to leave the bar. But anyways lower back tats do hurt but make sure you really want wat you get
