Normally you'd have the fan come on with the light but stay on afterwards. These are called timer fans.

I'd pop into a plumbing or electrical whoelsalers, don't bother with DIY shops.

You can get some really quiet ones for about £20 that only stick out from the wall by 6mm, they look really slick.

Sparky can fit them, you need to decide if you want a wall or roof outlet. A roof one looks neat as you just replace a slate, but that needs someone to get onto the roof.

2 hours, 30-50 quid labour ?

It's nice to have a seperate switch for a timer so the fan will continue a few minutes after the light is turned off.

Penn Zephyr company make a wide variety of relatively quiet fans. Installation shoud be somewhere about 2 to 3 times the cost of the fan with normal installation, slightly more depending on a new circuit for the extra switch timer.

Cheap fans are usually noisy. Most extractor fans list their noise level in sones. Plumbing supply houses are a good source for quality fans.
