Where and how did you get this 10 month old puppy? I I think the problem is that he's still adjusting to being in a new home with a new owner. You need to give him some time to to settle in and get used to everything, including you.
Unless you got the dog from a reputable breeder, I doubt that you're going to be able to get your money back :-(
Please try and be a little more patient with him and let him get settled in. . Good luck to you both.

First, I hope you did not buy from a petstore. If you bought from a reputable breeder - you would be asking them this question and they would be helping you - and they would be supportive for the rest of your dog's life. The dog is probably stressed, and the best thing to do is let him be - never give attention to a dog that is stressed and insecure - you're just nurturing that behavior. If by tomorrow morning he is not responding to his environment - get him to the vet to rule out illness. It is not usual for a puppy to not play. If he went to the bathroom and his stool was not loose, that is a positive sign, but you really have to be careful with petstore puppies, they are bred indiscriminately, and with out concern for their health or well-being. Unfortunately, most people don't know about puppy mills and improper breeding practices. To breed a healthy dog, you need to start with healthy parents that have been properly health tested for all the conditions that are specific to that breed. If you bought from a petstore, get your money back and tell everyone you know not to go to them to buy a puppy from them or ANY petstore. (Unfortunately this just means he will be pawned off on the next unsuspecting person) Petstore puppies come from puppy mills or people who just decided to make a buck by breeding 2 dogs together that were not of sufficient quality or health with no regard for the problems they create for you or the puppies. I wish you and the puppy the best!

Anytime you get a new dog you should take it to your vet w/in 72 hours. Most breeders want you to take the animal to the vet ASAP so if there any health issues they can be delt with promptly. I am guessing your new baby is just depressed. He'll come around Chihauhaus are very sensative to change, my mom has 2 and they are like having toddlers! give him a couple of days, treat him like you normally would, do not let him snip/snap or growl at you... you are the new alpha and the one in charge. But if your vets finds a problem, talk to the breeder, you may need to get your money back. Congrats on your new baby!

He may not have been socialized and is terrified of people, or maybe abused and then again, is terrified of people. Another thing that could be the case is hypoglycemia(low blood sugar). Then again, he may just be a very sick pup. Did you get it from a breeder? If you did, I would take it back and ask for my money back. Or if you want to keep the pup, take it to the vet tomorrow to see if it is sick. In the meantime if you can catch it, give it some karo syrup or honey in case it is low blood suagr. Hope the little guy is okay.

Like everybody else said, take him to the vet. Just because its always a good idea with a new pet, especially if you have other pets. Plus, puppies and kittens have to be de-wormed. Don't take him back and get your money back. He is probably just scared and upset, and if he is sick, taking him back won't do him any good. Try to find out what food they fed him where you got him, and buy that, and then slowly mix in the food you want to feed him. If you want to bond with him, lay on the floor, on your back, with a treat, be patient, and let him come to you.

It's not unusual for dogs to take 2 or 3 days to get used to their new environment, but your dog sounds SICK to us.
Lack of appetite and lethargy ("lazy", "sleepy all the time") are signs that the dog is ill... and puppies don't have fully developed immune systems, so illness can knock them down quickly.
We suggest getting the dog to a vet, and take along a fecal (poop) sample if you can so the vet can check it for Parvo and parasites.
If the dog is ill, you may be eligible for compensation (for the vet bills) under the "doggie lemon laws" in your state. These laws protect people who buy pets frombreeders or pet shops, and often allow for compensation of vet bills, a full refund of the purchase price and/or another dog...
Get your dog to a vet, find out what's ailing it, and then contact the people who sold/gave it to you.
If your dog is sick, you can bet that all of the other dogs the seller has are sick, too.

Well Brenda I am full of questions.. who had this puppy, what conditions did it live in? Has the puppy had its shots? Brenda if you got it from a pet store maybe they drugged the dog? I suggest you take the dog to the vet and try to be prepared with some answers to tell the vet when you get there. Good luck

If you have only had the puppy for a day then he is still not used to you yet. Let him watch you give him water and food and then leave him alone. He will eat at some point because he will be hungry! and if he knows you are giving him food he will warm up to you. Just be gentle with him and let him come to you

I hope you didn't buy him from a pet store! but regardless he should have been brought to the vets before bringing him home. He could be recovering from the changes but he should have eaten something by now. You should call the vet first thing an the am good luck!

He could be adjusting, although it is odd for a dog that young to not be playful and friendly.
Is he fully vaccinated? If not, and he's not eating and he's really lethargic, he could have parvo.
This dog needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible.
