DO NOT GIVE TYLENOL! It is poisonous to dogs! Their liver can't process it. Give him children's aspirin, you can grind it and mix with applesauce, yogurt, or something similar or put in a piece of cheese, hot dog, whatever he likes. You can also check out www.doggonepain.com and buy some DGP (also sold at PetSmart, but it's about $29) maybe he isn't at the end of his sweet life, just in a lot of pain that may be remedied with the right medication. DGP is designed for dogs that are in his situation, dogs with joint pain. Please don't just assume his time is up. I know you don't want him to suffer, but I have read about some really miraculous results with this product at www.whole-dog-journal.com, and I think it may be the solution you need. 12 isn't really that old for a small dog. Aspirin won't cure, just allleviate pain. Please at least check out the DGP website before you just give up on him. I know how you feel, he's given you so many wonderful and selfless years, you just want to give him all the comfort you can. I hope this helps.

ok i'm pretty sure but you should call the vet but 1/2 a baby aspirin is enough, my dog weighs about the same and when he's hurting i give 1/2. Giving it too him is another story, find something he loves, cooked meat, marshmallows, peanut butter, it doesn't matter too much it's just try too make it a small amount of people food compared to the size of the pill, you don't want too make him throw up of course. my dog takes meds daily for other reasons and i just plain open his mouth and put it far back in his throat so he has no choice but too swallow. if he's not eating well otherwise keep in mind the aspirin could upset his empty belly, if he eats wet food you could just hide it in his dinner and maybe he won't notice. good luck!!

There are some formulations of aspirin which you may be able to find at WalMart, PetSmart, etc. which are specifically for dogs. Follow the dosage on the label. Do not give any other kinds of pain reliever, even if it's safe for children. Animals do not process drugs the same as people do and they may have serious side effects. There are very nice, safer "doggie" drugs available from your veterinarian.

Yes you can give your little pooch some Tylenol. It is safe, if it's the correct dose. You need to measure the dose according to the pounds instead of by age. Instead of getting tablets the best for dogs is the liquid Tylenol. All you need to do is read the lable for a 12 lb child. (This will be easier and a less amount to try measuring if you get the INFANT TYLENOL.) This would be a small amount of a tasty liquid that you can put on a spoon. It smells good and your little doggie will just lick it off. Then you don't have to fight the issue like possibly with a tablet. Just in case your dog does not lick the medicine off the spoon and turns it's nose up, you can mix it in a little bit of canned dog food. That will be a sure way.
Vets study people as well as animals in school. They are doctors. The give many human medications also to animals. For example how about infections they also suggest Amoxicillin. Best of luck to you and your doggie.

NEVER GIVE A DOG TYLENOL! Tylenol is toxic to dogs.
Give the Chi a single baby aspirin or 1/4 of an adult aspirin about once every 8 hours. You can crush it and give it to him with some soft dog food, or wrap it up in a little bit of cheese or lunch meat.
There are also little soft pill wrappers you can get at the vet's office. They look like tiny peices of dark meat and can be molded around the pill. My dogs love these things, and it makes giving them medication very easy.

I would start off, giving him half of a baby aspirin, since he's so small. See if that doesn't help ease his pain. Also, a trick for pills I've found that works, is put it in some ice cream, or peanut butter, whatever type of treat available that you can slip it in. Maybe even attempt to put it in some bread, and feed that to him.

You can give him Baby's Asprin. I would recommend maybe a quarter of a tablet for such a small dog (we used half a tablet for my 42 lb dog and it worked well). You can wrap it up in cheese, or put it in a peice of his favorite food. If you have any soft dog treats you can slip it into that.

as long as you know that correct dose of baby aspirin to give then that is ok. Do not overdose , that can make your dog VERY ill. As for giving your dog the medication have you tried hiding it in some bread, cheese or peanut butter? That is usually the best way to do it
