True. Last time it was gay marriage. This time it's illegal immigrants. Always a silly wedge issue to make people forget about the real reasons they should vote the bums out and replace them with fresh blood.

It won't work this time, the Republicans are toast a week from Tuesday.

Well Kobra, it isn't brilliant but it does seem to be a diversionary tactic. First and foremost, no terrorist sophisticated enough to do us any real harm will cross the most polluted river in N. America to get here. He will stick out like a sore thumb in the Southwest and will have better luck entering undetected from Canada. Even Canadians will tell you this. A large Muslim community exists there and a middle eastern terrorist will be less likely to be noticed.

INS leaders will tell you that zero terrorists have been caught at the southern border. The 9-11 terrorists came in on a 747 with passports, visas and our own government's knowledge and blessing.

In the Southwest a terrorist whose agenda is to destroy even his own life to harm us will clash with those whose only goal in life is to improve his own station in life. Lock an illegal immigrant from south of the border and a middle eastern terrorist in the same room and they will kill each other; their views are so diametrically opposed. They are our best 'buffer zone' from middle eastern terrorists. Remember, during WWII Mexico did not allow Hitler to invade us through Mexico.

The "Wall of Shame" is just another 'agenda;' some special interest group is going to make big bucks from its construction at the expense of the taxpayer. Too bad not enough have seen through this thin guise. I'm surprised people don't remember the Berlin Wall and how angry everyone was over that. We are now becoming 'shut-ins' in our own country over some baseless fear. Immigration problems can be handled by legislating hiring laws, limiting social benefits and deporting troublemakers.

This is a nation of immigrants. It is what has made us great. Isn't that what the Statue of Liberty was all about?

Kat, though symoblic only the Statue of Liberty welcomes immigrants to Ellis Island. I know my facts.

It IS brilliant.

Look at how fired up people get about it... They're either just plain old rascists or they seem to feel like theres a war to fight here at home over immigration...

Illegal immigration is a problem, but you have to wonder why after
Sept 11 did the government NOT seal our borders. With all the fear mongering about how terrorists could be anywhere and saying that they wanted to hurt America and still no sealed borders...? It just doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it... as afraid of terrorism as some people seem to be they dont frowm upon the current powers for not sealing the borders after that horrible day... but say the word "illegal immigrant" and they go totally NUTS!

Its crazy!

It doesn't have to even be used as an official "diversion tactic" for it to work. People are stupid and would rather stop losing jobs to illegals than stop losing jobs due to outsourcing.

It might be a big deal but right after Sept 11 it should have been one of the number one priorities...

funny how NOW its such a big deal...

Its a great non-diversionary diversion.

Also dont forget the NAFTA Super hwy that will run from Mexico to Canada... maybe thats why Bush has seemed a little lax when it comes to border security and illegal immigration... maybe building a fence undermines a great big signifgant plan that hasn't been revealed to the public yet and one that obviously they might not like. The US has become awfully buddy buddy with Mexico behind the scenes.

I dont think Bush wants to confront Illegal immigration head on. He has never seemed very keen on facing this issue. Sure he says and does what he has to on TV, but when it comes down to it hes hadling this with kid gloves.

If the problem with the illegal alien crossing our borders is NEW to you ,then you do not live in a border state.I have
lived in Arizona for 25 years, and its always been a problem to us.Maybe you just were awaken to it but we have been at it a long time.
I own a ranch and many of my neighbors have lost livestock, equipment, been robbed, beaten and one stabbed and killed in that 25 years. All the perpetrators were illegals that were captured and convicted.Don't you tell me its something new to us here in Arizona.

H the Statue of Liberty had nothing to do with immigration when France gave it to the US it was the torch lighting the way and the hope that the rest of the world would follow democracy .That poem was added many years later and was put on a plaque that is not attached to the lady herself .It was used to raise money to complete the base the statue sets on..That plaque is in the statues museum . One needs to know ones facts first.

Take off the tin hat, lol. Look, of course Iraq is the biggest issue currently facing the country. But you can't ignore the illegal immigrant problem, the federal deficit, and several others. Our government must constantly deal with several issues at once, not solely Iraq. Peace.

.. yes .. it amazes me that so many people all of a sudden in the past few months have decided that the nation will come to an end if we dont commence immediate genocide on the mexican immigrants ... forget about the national debt, healthcare, a war where we are massacring hundreds of thousands of civilians, the destruction of our constitution, and police state legislation being passed left and right like Real-id .... no ... its just those derned pesky illegals ruining the country ... and these views coming from a population where 95% of the people know more about the simpsons than there first ammendment rights ... we are doomed as a nation imo ...

No because I saw this problem long before we ever went to war in the middle east. When they refused to do anything about securing our borders and millions were crossing in increasing numbers and they had no clue who was here, it became more important to secure the borders and know who the heck was in this country.

Well you know what?
I didn't start opposing illegal immigration because some politician told me to do so.
I started opposing it when two male illegals broke into my best friends home when her husband was away, taunted her and her children, took their money and possessions and spat in her face.
Thankfully they were caught, how do i know they were illegal? Friends in the police department..

You bringing our soldiers into this is damn right disrespectful, our troops know the risk and they take a bullet bravely for America.!

You could be right. Nobody wants to deal with the real problem. Global Warming. That costs money and there's no profit in it for corporations dependent directly or indirectly on oil revenue. I guess money matters more than people.
