I'm talking about people who are "slow" or have genetic problems not mental illnesses.

This is a huge generalization! Yes, it is true of some handicapped people, but others do not look "strange" (according to our accepted view!). IMO, there are PLENTY of "normal" people out there who look much stranger than most Down's syndrome people I know! Why do you want to know and why do you care, anyway? It's an odd question.

i assume you are referring to downs syndrome, which is a genetic condition. their features come from an extra chromosome, which lead to the strange appearance. Most mentally retarded people have very big hearts and souls, so get past the looks and get to know them.

They are not strange looking at all. TO you they may look strange looking, but whether or not they are mentally handicapped, they are a human being.

With the genes that produce the problem of Down Syndrome and other disorders, so those genes cause facial differences too. I would have preferred if you said "different" rather than strange.....it's more respectful.

it all has to do with genetics and chromosomes......i cant really say why exactly but im sure you could do a search on yahoo to find out exactly why.
