I give my dog a bath every other day but when I get home from work he always smells like he hasn't had a bath in weeks. Does he have some kind of fur problem?

If he still stinks after all those baths he needs to see a vet. Dogs get yeast infections on and in their skin. Itchiness and soreness (redness) are signs, but some dogs just suffer in silence. Also, look in the ears, yeast is famous for hiding there and causing all sorts of problems.
You are bathing him too much. He only needs a bath once or twice a month. Long haired dogs need brushing but not bathing every day. All that wetness causes yeast infections.
A vet can give you meds to clear it right up.
Good Luck

His problem is that you are bathing him entirely too often!! Bathing too often takes the natural oils out of the dog's skin and it is causing him to stink. You are destined to give him skin problems if you continue to bath him like this!! You should not bathe a dog any more than once a month!! Please talk to your veterinarian about this. You may even need to put him on some fatty acid supplements for his skin depending on how long you've been bathing him every other day. It sounds like the frequent bathing has already caused some skin issues since he is smelling bad. Time for a trip to the vet.

Part of the problem is that you are bathing your dog way too often. Dogs should only be bathed about once every three months; and then only if they're filthy.

Bathing the dog too often destroys the natural oils in the skin that keep the skin in good condition and keep the coat shiny.

A chronic "bad smell" is usually a sign of psoriasis... unless the smell is centered around the head. In that case, it may be that dog has a deep ear infection that has gotten "stinky". ((Too much water in the ears form the constant bathing may actually cause infections -- like "swimmer's ear" -- in dogs.))

We suggest that you STOP the constant bathing of your dog and get him to a vet so the exact cause of the smell can be properly determined and treated.

Hmm.... don't bathe that often, brush between bathing. What are you using to bathe with? Is your dog one of the sporting dogs who do have an odor from the Anus gland. I think you need to read about the care of your dog. Does your dog have it's shots, and vet checks? There are many books and articles on animal care. check the site below. If a dog is not trained and left in a cage all day of course he will have odor as he has no way to get away from urine or stool that he has deposited during the time you were away.

If you are bathing him every day, he will get a skin problem. There are some dogs that have a natural bad odor to them anyway. I just found that out myself from a pet groomer. Just some good pet deodorant. I have one called "Refresh Deodorant for Pets" made by Simple Solution. It has fresh Apricot scent. It is best to use something like that instead of daily bathing. Your dog needs the natural oils and the pet groomer told me daily bathing can make them smell worse. The dog she was talking about was a miniature Yorkshire terrior. That little bitty dog smells bad, no matter what. Good luck.

Your going to dry your dogs skin if you bath him that often. which leads to scratching and worse bleeding. If his hair smells you should consider taking him to a groomer and getting his hair cut short. Also if you feed your dog too much wet food I found my dog gives off a foul odor too. I only give my dog Eukanuba it worked for my dog.

I think the problem is hes getting to many baths, its probably the oils in his skin trying to catch up to balance out his pH level. Your poor pups skin is to dry!

You may be drying out his skin by bathing that often. Dogs just smell like dogs, maybe nothing it wrong with him. Bathe him less often.
