Why the panic?
The only real way to truly contain a virus (mysterious disease) is try to contain the illness to one specific area. If there was a pandemic than the smartest solution would be to shut down the airports globally. This is unlikely to happen.
If you were to learn tomorrow that a disease was terrorizing your city, all you could do would be to stay at home and avoid any contact with the world outside your door. In the 1918 pandemic, the cities that were struck hard were unable to keep up with the demand for medical assistance nor could the city maintain burials for all the dead. They resorted to mass graves. People died and seamingly only survived , on the whole, if the virus was a weak version of itself. The 1918 flu still survives to this day. It evolved into a form that has learned not to kill the host. A virus can start out mild and evolve to a particularly fatal form but the flu will never be annihilated.
People all over should be able to sustain themselves in their homes for a period of time. Having supplies for at least 6 weeks has been suggested. You should not depend on the city for the basics. There would be no water treatment in a worse case senario, no stores open, gas is a consideration and perhaps even a back up system for electricity would be your responsibility.
There was no cure or vaccine found to counter the 1918 flu virus and it faded due to natural evolution of the virus. Our hospitals can not handle the health care needed presently so if a city becomes overwhelmed, you should count on yourself for the necessities.
Don't spend time worrying about it because it is not in your hands whether or not it comes. You just have to be proactive in making sure you are prepared. The day will come and we all must be prepared.

The Center for Disease Control,CDC, in Georgia would send out researchers trained in disease control to analyze all the information they could on those infected and grow specimens and see if there were any antibiotics that were effective against it like they did with leigonares disease, which now can be treated and controlled.

Well I would guess they would start an immediate fund raiser for this occurrence and start immediate research once the disease is a major conflict. In fact there is a new disease that only effects little boys, this is called ALD. It is a disease with much pain and suffering that can kill you within 1-10 of being diagnosed. The American society does not recognize this for it is very rare and we as the U.S. economy are to caught up in Major dies es like Aids and Diabetes. So to answer your question, it might take a while to concept it, but eventually doctors will notice, and immediate action will be taken place.

Samples of the patient would be taken. Things such as saliva, urine, and blood samples would be taken. As well there would be X-Rays taken to further follow up and to both explore and to eliminate what it may or may not be the problem. Finally, the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta would become involved. You may see individuals quarantined so that the disease would not be spread.

Epidemiology -- analyze the mode of transmission.

Sampling -- you would belive how many body parts can be swabbed. The samples would be tested for the presence of previously unseen or variant microorganism.

Quarantine -- attempt to prevent spread beyond the local region

Toxicology -- make sure it's not a chemical contaminant

Autopsy -- the dead may provide useful answers for the living

Trial therapy -- using known pharmaceuticals to see if one or more produce a clinical response

Supportive measures -- treat the symptoms.

They would probably let it kill off all of the poor and homeless. When this had been achieved they would miraculously have a cure for the well to do.
