I'm very interested in having a very healthy mouth. I do have few minor gaps which I will be undergoing treatment with Invisalign in a week or two.

I want to keep my teeth forever til' the day I die...so how?

Is it okay to brush my teeth more than 3 times a day? More the better? I ask cause I would brush can brush them like 4-5 times I day..when i wake up, sleep and before and after meals.

So how can I have healthy gums too?

I'm currently 18 years of age and have had like 1 cavity my whole life.

The only problem a dentist has ever told me what that i grind my teeth so ive been concious about it and try not to anymore.

I used to smoke a little weed like once a week for 3 months but have stopped because i care more about my mouth.

I dont think any soda, just water...well, also juices and stuff like that.No candy.

Also...i heard that using mouthwash is just as effective as using floss except getting food stuck between teeth out...but in terms of killing germs and all yea.

Waterpik is the way to go. WIll get the nasty particles from between your teeth, massages your gums and you can clean your tongue. It's kind of like a powerwash for your mouth.

Fantastic concern about your teeth and gums! Most 18-year-olds don't even think about their teeth/gums until they're very much in trouble. I'll bet your dentist is proud of you!

I'm just a few days past my 64th birthday, and my good teeth and gums are courtesy of some genetics, of course, fluoride-treated water when I was a child and routine brushing and flossing of my teeth and then soft brushing (to stimulate my gums) of my gums.

Regarding grinding of your teeth, this is called "bruxism" and you should (in my opinion because grinding of the teeth causes damage to them) discuss the use of a "bite plate," as grinding of your teeth usually occurs when you're asleep and, of course, you'd have no control over that.

Glad to hear you've given up smoking weed, because that has all sorts of side effects other than your mouth that you should be worried about. Water is best, of course, and obviously no candy (or very little, followed by a thorough brushing).

Surprisingly, brushing your tongue helps cut down on the bacteria (and their odor) in your mouth - which lowers the amount of "critters" lurking in your mouth, and they can cause decay problems if not watched in the long-term.

My dentist still feels that flossing needs to be done, as well as mouthwash. There's a new product (actually several now) that is a mouthwash without alcohol, which is the largest reason most people don't want to use them.

Keep up the good work and you'll really enjoy those sturdy teeth when you're my age! And older....

Personally, I see no reason to brush your teeth before your meals just brush after meals, when you awake and go to bed. Cigs, cocanine and other drugs you smoke do a bad work on your teeth. Drugs turn your teeth discolor your teeth and damage your body internally. You have a wonderful goal to keep your teeth your whole life and you can if you work at it. Floss(use Glide), use a good mouthwash, brush with a soft brush, a water pick sometimes, and you will be heading the right direction for a healthy mouth your whole life. Don't forget that the gums are just as important as your teeth in a healthy mouth. Brush your gums gently at least once a day and make sure the mouthwash gets up, down and all around your gums. Best wishes!

WOW,, you already have good oral hygiene, the invisalign you will be getting soon will help with the bruxing(grinding) as far as brushing so many times a day its OK as long as you use a soft toothbrush because if you use a medium or hard bristle you will get rescission of the gums, flossing is VERY important you not only remove your lunch from between your teeth you are also putting oxygen into your gums which is very important, also a water pick is advised especially with the invisalign,,,, make sure when your finished eating you brush and floss before you put your braces back in and also get regular check ups !!! your doing a great job..... sounds like you will have your teeth forever

Wow, that's great that you want to keep a healthy mouth. I am 50+ (I have all my teeth) and my secret is brushing with a Sonicare electric tooth brush (that helps prevent plack), floss after every meal and gargle with Listerine. The mouthwash prevents gingivitis and plack from forming. Get your teeth cleaned by your dentist every 6 months.

Before I started that regime 10 years ago, I seemed to always need a small filling or my gums would bleed. Now, my dentist always compliments me on how healthy my teeth and gums are.

You are on the right track! Good for you.

I use a medicated toothpaste for fluoride protection and brush my teeth thoroughly, while I also floss and wear Crest White Strips sample for whiter teeth. These invisible strips are a lot easier to use. You may also learn more about this product by browsing this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php

Baking soda is also good for your teeth, but you still need a good fluoride protection usually provided by medicated toothpastes. You may as well use Crest White Strips sample with hydrogen peroxide to help whiten teeth. Visit this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php for oral care tips and product details.
