I am confident my puppy has an ear infection - he doesn't want anyone to touch his ear and has wax coming out of his ear. I am going to call the vet tomorrow (Monday) to take him in because he just started showing symptoms yesterday (Saturday). Does anyone have any advise on how to keep him comfortable until I can get him into the doctor? (Could I try a warm compress or something like that? I don't want to try anything too drastic/putting anything in his ear before I speak with the vet as this is his first infection.)

It sounds like the pup has a yeast infection in his ear. They can be very painful. You should just leave him be and not mess with the ear until you take him to the vet. Your vet will give you some medication to put in his little ear that will make him feel better.

Ear infections can be very painful for a pooch, and we applaud you for getting him to a vet as soon as you can.

While you wait, you can give him baby aspirin, or a child's dose of regular aspirin (no Tylenol or anything like that - just aspirin; other pain relievers can contain chemicals toxic to dogs) to help moderate the pain. Some chamomile tea may also help to calm him down, so he sleeps better despite the ear-ache.

Leave the pup's ear alone. Love him but don't try to do anything to his ear. Ask the vet if both ears are infected-this is important. If so-then your pup may be allergic to his food.
