A standard definition of "victory" is to credit to the party who is left holding the field of battle. Since the CSA retreated, Gettysburg was clearly a Union victory.

From Shmoop History on The Civil War: On July 1, a detachment of Confederate soldiers entered the town of Gettysburg searching for supplies, especially shoes, which were always in short supply. A unit of Meade's army met them there and a skirmish broke out. Reinforcements were called in and, although planned by no one, over the next three days, the fate of the United States was to be decided. Of all the many battles in American history, none was quite as important or has been quite as extensively studied as Gettysburg. Here lay the fate of nations, and during three incomparably bloody days, men fought and died in thickets, in fields, in the Bloody Stream, and a hellish ditch known as Devil's Den. Pickett's Charge, as it came to be known, was Lee's greatest folly, and as the men of General George Pickett's division walked slowly across the 3/4 mile of empty fields, the hopes of the Confederacy marched with them. Only 5,000 ever made it back to the Confederate lines, and Lee was forced to turn and flee. General Mead lead the Union army.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a Union victory. Because Yankee victories were much more scarce than Rebel victories since the beginning of the war in 1861, it was considered a a turning point in the war, and was also known as "The High Water Mark of the Confederacy". As you probably know, the battle lasted for 3 days, July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of 1863. On July 1st, the Confederate infantry forces, led by General Robert E. Lee at the time, pushed into the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The reason for the Confederate's attempted siege of Gettysburg is unknown, although it has been argued that the Rebel Army of Northern Virginia was looking for a supply of shoes at the town. Anyway, these forces were repulsed by Union Cavalry General John Buford until General John Reynolds and his infantry arrived to assist Buford. Reynolds was killed during the fighting, causing mass confusion. The Union forces retreated back through town and took up a position on Cemetery Ridge. Day 1 was considered a victory for the Confederacy, but they didn't win all of the battle though.

On Day 2 there was scattered fighting all around the Gettysburg area. Over the night, troops from both sides arrived to assist their comrades. The Confederacy formed a large position around Seminary Ridge. Day 2 was considered one of the worst days of the battle with around 10,000 casualties for each side. The day was a tie. Though that night, General Lee devised a grand attack for the next day.

July 3rd was the final day of battle. The day began ugly and foggy as Confederate troops rallied for the foresaid attack. This attack was known as Pickett's Charge, one of the most famous military manuevers in history. Around noon, Pickett's Charge began with a massive artillery attack of 200 rebel cannons. Although the Yankees fired back, the Union position took a lot of fire. Then after the artillery attack, the rebel infantry started across the mile to the Union postion. Enemy cannons made bodies fall like rain. Although the infantry reached the rock wall that marked the Union position, the giant melee that ensued repulsed the Confederates. So the rebels were forced to retreat and limp back to the south the next day. The Battle of Gettysburg was said to be the most terrible battle of the Civil War, sporting a whopping 55,000 casualties from both sides.

So overall, the Battle of Gettysburg was a Union victory.

It was a complete and total Union victory.

Plankshee is nuts. Ewell failed to take CULP'S HILL not Little Round Top. For God's sake, they are at opposite ends of the battle field.

If Stonewall Jackson had been commanding his corps, instead of Dick Ewell, we'd be two countries today. He'd have gone up over Culp's Hill and Spangler's Knob and flanked the entire Union Army on the first day of the battle.

The men the south lost could be, and were, replaced. The biggest loss was the South's senior leadership. Those guys could not be replaced.

It broke the back of the Confederate Army.
Pickett lost an entire division and Sam Bell Hood, over 60% of his. When Ewell failed to take the high ground on Little Round Top or Seminary Ridge they could only launch failed attacks on the worst kind of ground for infantry assualts. Heth had no ideal what he was engaging from the outset since Stuart's calvery was off joy riding and leaving Lee blind.
If they had listened to Longstreet, this battle may never have occured. Lee's biggest blunder.
It may have been the last major Napolionic style major assault of Confederate infantry.
Lee definately lost.

Union, also each battle by that time of the war was truly a union victory because the confed was running out of men, supplies etc. and each battle cost them. The union could replace their losses, including the men because they had an unending supply of immigrants.
