Theres really not a way to stop a dog from sheading, some breeds shed a lot others don't shead at all, bichon frise for example don't shed unlike labs. try brushing your dog more because all the loose hair is probably falling out. You should brush your dog about once a day

All dogs shed to a degree (they have to, as the old hair has to fall out when replaced by new hair), but excessive shedding can be a result of many medical conditions, ranging from intestinal parasites that you simply cannot see to hormonal imbalances, including hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease, etc. That can be the case, even if your dog *seems* healthy to you in all other respects.
I would suggest that instead of trying to figure this out on your own (which is likely to end up costing you a lot more money in the long run, with poor results...unless you just 'get lucky'), that you schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for an evaluation. I've seen lots of people waste LOTS of money and time on things that could have been easily corrected with one or two visits.

I'm having the same problem with my GSD, he should be bald but I know GSD shed year-round, sometimes heavier than others, I bought a shedding rake an shedding comb, I use the rake every3-4 days and the comb once a week, also give him (1) 1000 mg capsule of Omega3 fish oil a day, this seems to help a lot. bathing too much will increase the shedding also, inside dogs don't need baths as much as outside dogs. If anyone else has an idea on shedding pls post~I'm listening~

Brush, comb, groom. That is about all you can do. Of course without knowing what breed you have, I can't tell you if this is a normal situation or not. Double coated breeds shed ALOT! I have a GSD, Aussie, and Dutch Shepherd. If I don't brush and groom, I am breathing dog hair. You need to take care of the coat. This is why it is so very important that you research a breed before getting it. Some breeds shed all year round.

I don't think there is any way to stop your dog from shedding, but brushing her on a regular basis will help to keep the shedding contained a little. At least that way the hair is on the brush and not all over your house.

I have seen a certain brush that pulls the loose hair from underneath out and that way they don't shed that often. I have tried it on my dog and it worked. She has not shed in quite a long time. Hope ths helps.

I've found that the Wheat Germ Oil for pets is good, but it is safe to give your pet about 1/3 of a teaspoon of the liquid Corn Oil shortening once a day, this will help her coat from shedding and is very safe.

try a different way of brushing use the brush attachment on you vaccum (if your dog can stand it) and suck away more loose hair than just brushing. you really can't stop the shedding but instead find ways to control the hair.

JO_K-- How much does your GSD weigh I also have a GSD (female) and she is 93 lbs. Could I give her the same dosage? The shedding is horrendous.
