we've already seen it. Look to the former communist nations. Without the any reference to a higher moral code or power, its leaders committed the worst attrocities in history. If people do not have a reason to control their own moral behavior then, they will only ever behave when they think someone is watching, or they think they may be caught. For a society to prosper its people to live according to a principled life, not merely behave when they are forced to by laws and police. Religion offers this, atheism doesn't. Those atheists who do live "principled" lives are living off the upbringing offered by their parents, or because they think its the popular thing to do. Popularity is not a sound basis for any moral code. The holocaust was popular in Germany until it wasn't. Things that are popular change daily, moral codes shouldn't follow so quickly

I think that if it is a picture as you describe it, then it is like when Jesus told the Pharisees of his day that they were like white washed tombs that looked good on the outside but inside they are full of dead men's bones.

Inside of all of those buildings are people who are loved by God but separated from Him by sin and unbelief. They will live their lives totally ignorant of the fact that there is a whole eternity waiting for them on the other side of the door of death. That's the rationale of this world's system that is ruled over by the Devil in a behind the scenes manner. It tells people to be like this man whom God called a fool.

Luke 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

So will it be for all people who never escape from the blindness that the "god of this world" system puts upon the minds of the majority of mankind.
