Why are we still dealing with this? My 16 m/o son had bronchitis at the end of September. His pediatrician prescribed Augmentin Es, and I gave it to him as directed. Immediatly following the bronchitis, he was put on Omnicef for an ear infection. The infection was very hard to clear up, so he then was given shots of Rocefin. I beleive the ear infection is gone, b/c he seems very content, but he now has a thick, green runny nose. No matter what I do, it continously runs. I REALLY dont want him on any more antibiotics unless we have no choice. Is it okay to let this continue, as long as there is no pain or fever? Why is his nose running like this? In public, people look at me in disgiust, and they take their children away from him in fear of their child catching something. Please give me any advice.
Thank you-

Ever try giving the kid some water?

Sounds like he has allergies or a cold. Everything so far has been the result of the cold (or allergies).

There is an old addage that either goes, starve a cold and feed a fever, or starve a fever and feed a cold.... nobody is sure which is which, but the actual thing should be: With a cold or fever start dumping lots of water into the kid.
When a child has a cold, or fever they start using water a little faster than normal. If this leads to dehydration (even slightly) the mucus starts to thicken. When the mucus starts to thicken, then the ears plug up and you end up ear infections, snot thickens and you end up with sinus infections, bronchial tubes.... ok hopefully you get the picture.

So if you want to avoid more antibiotics (which is always a good idea), then hydrate that kid to the point that he's peeing ever hour, the snot will clear and the risk of infection will drop dramatically. (A side effect of having enough water in your system is that you also.... feel better)

I tend to try to keep my kids away from green snot from anyone!! :) But I would give it a while if he seems happy. Being on antibiotics so much is not good, as you know. Let the antibiotics run their course and then see if it goes away.
He may have allergies, but green snot...I don't know...a doctor is just going to give you more antibiotics...
Maybe get a referral to a specialist?

I hope it gets better soon!

When I was younger I had the same problems. Then my doctor told me to go see a specialist and i got tested for allergies. In the end i found out i was allergic to dust mites. Getting tested for allergies a a good place to start. Also just make sure he washes his hands ALOT!!!

I think the green stuff coming out of his nose is from his bronchitis as its now claering up the gunk has to come out. Sometimes they also vomit it out. My boy has asthma and cause he cant cough the flem out he keeps swallowing it eventually he will vomit and then it seems to clear up. If he has no fever then there's no infection. Good luck.

This is just an allergy, the child needs claritin to dry it up.
The color is just pollen mucous.
Dont worry, this happens to children during this season.
Plus your child is cutting teeth.
Hey, dont get discouraged now, just get a boogar thang and clean the child's nose.

Has the doctor checked his Adnoids. A friend of mine had the same problem with her daughter and it affected her speech. She had to have her Adnoids removed and after that she started talking better.
