jesus was not the first person, nor the last to be killed by crucification. It is a particularly uncomfortable way to die, not particularly because of the way one is hung on a cross or T-bar, but because one dies slowly of suffication....over the course of several days.... And contrary to what you see in Renaissance paintings (1500's or so) nails were not driven into the palms of the hands, but rather into the area above the wrist -- the palms of the hands would simply pull out under a man's weight. One sufficates because it is difficult to fill the lungs in the hanging position -- great effort in needed to lift the body to fill the lungs -- try it your self -- hang from a tree by your hands for several minutes, and see how difficult it is to get a deep breath. The Romans crucified thousands of people by this method. Sparticus was one -- an escaped slave that lead other slaves all over Rome. He and some 7000 were strung up along the Appian Way to be as a symbol to any of the rest of the slaves who would try a revolt. It took the Roman Army several years chasing him and his followers, but they were finally captured, and finally crucified. Google Sparticus+slavery+Rome, and see what you come up with. Google as well Crucification+method+history.
As for how could he deal with the pain? Honey, does anyone who is tortured have a choice????? I am sure he, and other simply passed out over the course of the days it took to die.
If you wish to know more in the area, go the Discovery.com, and Look in their DVD or Video section for Crucification of Jesus, you'll find one on Jesus, The Complete Story. Great history, well told, and cheap at $15.00. Everything that history knows about this era is on this. Cheap at 5 times the price. Awesome piece of historical research.

I agree, who could EVER do that. Especially since he could have jsut snapped his fingers and all of it would have gone away. Its like when you touch somehting hot your natural reaction is to throw your hand away from the heat. It makes it much harder to do something difficult, when you have the power to end it immediatly
I also find this interesting... In the bible it talks about Jesus sweat becoming like drops of blood right before he was handed over to be crucified. There is an actual medical condition that happens to people when they are under tremendous stress and blood drips out of their pours.
When someone has this condition, they cant even STAND to be touched because it is soo painful!! Imagine being scourged and carying a heavy cross up a hill with thorns on your head..and doing it FOR the people who were spitting at you on your way to be crucified.ONLY GOD HAS THAT KIND OF LOVE!!

I believe because he knew that humanity could never do it,it was prophesied, all through out the old testament. That the perfect lamb would be slain for our transgressions. He knew what his mission was,yet he was still human, and asked God why have you forsaken me.He took all sin and bore the brunt of all we would have had because of sin,He conquered sin and death and knew that's why he came to earth. He was perfect in every way never had he sinned, though he was a human,He was perfect.God knew we could never be perfect that's why he sent his son, that the world through him would be saved.I cant imagine ever dying for people especially all the hateful ones.I would probably say let them all go to hell. But The Father Son and Holy Spirit has such intense love for us humans,it was out of complete LOVE I think. It must be like how I feel about my children,I would die for them in an instant if that's what I was called to do.Jesus endured the cross and all the lashes upon His back because He wanted us in eternity.I love Him because He first loved me.God says he is the author and finisher of our faith, can you imagine that, what incredible love he has for us,that he would even help us to finish our faith walk with him,as I write this I am overcome with so much gratitude, that He loves us so.

Many, many people back in those days were crucified. Some were sawn in half, slowly beheaded, skinned alive, etc...
You think the hacker movies are bad, they didn't have anything on our ancestors!!!
The real pain Jesus had to endure was when God the father could no longer look on Him, because He was carrying the sins of all mankind on His shoulders. In Mark 15:34 Jesus crys out saying, "Father, Father, why hast thou forsaken me?" Jesus had not been forsaken, but God was unable to commune with Him for all of our sins and Christ had never before been unable to commune with God. This was the real pain!

Thanks For Your Question :)
Well aa from a Muslim point of view Christ peace be upon him was never crucified in fact we(Christians and Muslims) agree on the point that he was raised by God to heaven and we also agree that He(Christ) will come back someday to kill the anti-Christ
as Muslims we believe that Christ peace be upon Him was the prophet and the messenger of God so we don't believe that God could let one of his beloved ones get hurt by any means .
if you wanna talk more about it please feel free to MSG me anytime :) bye

The worst pain was that of taking on our sins on Him.So bad God made it too dark to see it.Then when he was done,He dimissed his spirit.
Hebrews 12:2 says"He was willing to to take the pain and humiliation because of the outcome and the joy of knowing we'd be saved".

He would go into shock, and his adrenilane and mind would go over the pain, making him feel significantly less amounts of pain than normal.

Christ cold feel the pain yet he knew he ould be with GOD and that he was passing over to help us forgive those who harmed him. For we are only human. To get to th other side we must be patient and forgiving in all that we do.
