I'm French and it doesn't sound French at all. I don't think we have many names ending in "y".

Phonetically, the noun that would sound like "Tachey" is "taché", but it's not a surname.

As for "Tacey", it would be "tassé", but hat not a name either.

And in both cases, it's a bit far-fetched.

I looked it up on a website dedicated to names (whatsinaname.com) and according to them it is in use as a female first name and comes from the Latin word "tacere", which means to be silent. The mind boggles! A ready made way of telling your daughter to shut up! It was not listed as a surname. Might I suggest a possible connection with Taizé?

I lived in France for 6 years and know names and the language pretty well. I don't think your surname is french.
