Put a few 2 or 3 inch pieces of double sided tape all over the area he sits on. After a few 'stickies' he'll stop.
Good luck

Why can't your cat sit on the sofa? Poor thing! You can't keep her from sitting on the sofa. My cats know they're not allowed to go on the kitchen counter and they don't as long as i'm home, but I know they go on it when I leave. There were so many times that I forgot something at home and had to come back and I found them walking around on the counter, cuz they thought I'd be gone for longer. Even if your cat knows what she's allowed to do and what not, she'll still do it! Cats have their own head and do what they want.
But there's nothing bad about a cat sitting on the sofa, is it?! Let her sit with you, that's why you got her, right?!

Cats always find the most comfortable place in the house to sleep and they like the height of our sofas and chairs! I have 4 cats and a number of strays who visit and they all love the sofa so I bought some pet blankets and laid them on it , when visitors come I just shoo off whoever is there and put the cat blanket underneath the sofa! you need a pet blanket that dosent let hairs through as otherwise they get through and your sofa will be very hairy!

Get rid of the sofa.
But seriously, most sprays in the pet stores smell rank and you wouldn't want them on your furniture really. An air freshener that's fabric safe in a citrus scent (lemon & orange are good), usually will offend a kitty. However, they do wear off, so you'll have to respray frequently. The truth is that you will likely never be able to get your kitty to always stay off the sofa. But if you're lucky he/she will get better at hiding it when they do so that you don't know. Just like you don't think that he gets on the counter top and walks around.

Honestly there is no what I have found to keep cats off the furniture. Unless you want to use spike strips and lay them across the sofa. I have successfully kept the dog of the sofa my strategically placing pillows but it doesn't work for cats.

I doubt if you will - especially if the cat is left in the house all day. It will simply get back on the sofa after you go.
Cover the part where he/she sits. Or put the cat out during the day

get a spray bottle and spray the cat just a little bit each time he sits on the sofa. cats hate water so they will learn not to sit on the sofa if you spray them

its psychology. it will take a while. i did this with my cat. you treat the cat for when it is off the sofa. if the cat comes on to the sofa you simply take it back off again the cat will realise that it cat stay on it and you will have a cat hair free sofa.
hope this works

You put something on the sofa where your cat likes to sit at and eventually the cat will stop sitting on the sofa.

There are some sprays that are meant to maintain cats far off from places the place that's sprayed; yet they often only paintings for greater or less quarter-hour. your terrific option is to place sheets onto the furnishings you do not choose lined in hair. That way you only have cat hair on cleanable sheets.

Hahaha! You are gonna stop your cat from sitting on the sofa? I don't think so. Your cat will probably take up residence where ever he/she decides to. We own dogs - cats own us.
