My son and I stayed home until he was 13 months now I'm back at work and he's in Day care. It's only been 1 month and he's picked up enough bacteria to have a Sinus Infection and an Ear Infection.I know neither of these are contagious but I also know that they are both bacteria infections and I know he's not getting it from home.During the whole time we were at home he had a head cold once and that was when he was 7 months old.

Cassandra,I'm interested in knowing your thoughts on mothers/fathers that HAVE to work, with no immediate family around and they HAVE to put their children in Day Care.I couldn't tell if you were trieing to enlighten me with "these" websites or if you were trieing to give me a guilt trip.Seeing as all you did was just leave web addresses and no comment.

I don't think there is ANY way on earth to keep him from all the germs, bacteria, etc. Kids are just gross when it comes to this stuff and parents send the kids to school thinking the dimetapp will control the green crud in their nose but it does not.
I understand what you are saying about 2 parents having to work. But, I would move to a cheaper house, have only 1 car, eat hot dogs 3 nights a week and never eat out if it meant working full time. But only you know your situation. It is great you were with him that first year.
My kids are 2 and 4 and my daughter attends preschool 3 days a week and my son goes to Mothers morning out one morning for 3.5 hrs. My pediatrician says he gets enuf germs there once a week in 3 hrs to be perpetually sick (colds, viruses, etc.). I work at the preschool the morning he goes to MMO..... (to pay my daughter's tuition).
Do what you have to do, the best you can, but I know when I leave my day at the preschool I feel like I need to go thru HASMAT decontamination!!

He is getting more colds and etc now because he hasn't built up the antibodies yet since he hasn't been around other kids much. If he doesn't build them not (exposure), he will become more sick when he gets exposed as he gets older. Just help him get into the habit of washing his hands well...sing the happy birthday song to know that he's washed long enough. As he gets older, teach him to not put things in his mouth, wash after using the bathroom, cough into his sleeve rather than his hand, blow his nose into a tissue instead of picking it, etc. Sounds like a lot, but my son is 4 and since he's learned to do these things,he has become sick far less often. Once your son's body has a chance to build a resistance to bacteria's, he will become more resilient. Good Luck!

The best things you can do are the same things you would do for yourself to keep your immune system strong. Make sure he has a good diet that is balanced and has variety, see that he gets plenty of exercise and plenty of sleep, and teach him to practice healthy habits like washing his hands. It's not easy with a child that's 13 months old, but learning simple things like washing his hands after the bathroom and/or before eating are very important. Beyond that - kids are TOUGH, so don't worry too much; we've all been there, and survived, after all.

Make sure whoever is taking care of him has a policy of frequent handwashing for themselves and the children. You'd be surprised to see how many caregivers will go from one child to the next, wiping noses and changing diapers without a good handwashing in between!

Wash his hands and face when you get home. Bathe him every evening. Feed him oranges everyday. I know it sounds like an old-wives tale but this could help.

You can try and give your child a multi-vitamin. Since your child is younger they have a liquid kind so you can put it in juice or milk....Hope it works out.....
