Hell is where all people go when they die. It is the common grave. Jesus died and the Bible says that his soul (body) was not left in hell, meaning he was resurrected from the grave(or tomb) by his Father in heaven. Jesus was not doing anything while in hell, He was dead and was not able to talk, think or do anything until he was brought back to life. Nowhere does the Bible say Jesus died for us, but he really didn't die because he was helping other dead ones. Death is as follows, according to Ecclesiastes 9:10--"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Also at Psalm 146:4--"His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
Psalm 115:17--"The dead praise not Jehovah, Neither any that go down into silence" ASV
Isaiah 38:18--" For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth."
These Scriptures assure us that Jesus did indeed die for us, and remained dead until his resurrection.

No Jesus did not go to hell, but after He died on the Cross, He did go to the upper part of Hades which was paradise at that time. (ref Luke 16: 19-31~ regarding hades: upper and lower)... He went to hades to tell those who died under the old covenant that He was the One that they believed who was going to come as the Savior..

No one neede to die for Christ because He broke no laws. He did not sin. But when He died, he went to prison and taught people killed in the flood. 1 Peter 3:18-19.

He had no sin. That's why His sacrifice only could satisfy the penalty of sin. Death had to release him, because he was actually innocent.

Well if you believe the part of the story where he sacrificed himself for our sins, why don't you believe the part that says he's not dead?
