I am an atheist, and I don't recall any of the three telling the public it would be a walk in the park. In fact, if you re-read/watch their old speeches they repeatedly say that it is not going to be easy.
Blame ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox/CNN for acting like it was ESPN Gameday right before the war started.

Even if you doubt Gods existence, read the book of Romans in the bible.
In Chapter one and two you will find where God states that there is not a king or a leader (good and bad) that he has not put in that position.
This means that no matter our personal views on the subject, we do not see the entire picture, but God does and this is why I stay out of the blame game. God put them in their positions for a reason, we just cannot see the whole forest yet.
