To survive the desire of groups of people wishing to impose control over other groups or individuals.
The greatest challenge to freedom is 'democracy'. That is why our Rights and their source, God, were clearly defined in the Declaration of Independence and the laws protecting them in the Constitution. It was an effort to give teeth, and arms, to the sacred notion of freedom.

I myself think that Bush and his administration is the biggest challenge to democracy and freedom. but that is just my personnel opinion.
