Here's a site with some common otc meds that are ok for an otherwise healthy dog. You would not want to use them long term, but are ok until you can get to a vet.

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that you should take your dog to the vet if it's sick. Human medicine is for humans!

I don't think it would be a good idea. That's why we don't take hem to our own doctors and why they have vets. Animals need different medicine and in different doses than a human, it would be unsafe to give them something if you are not sure exactly what the problem is.

It depends on what kind of meds you are talking about. You should ALWAYS consult w/ your vet before giving your dog anything even if you think it is safe for the dog.

Always consult your veterinarian (you can call them to ask if the drug is poisonous or toxic). Many are toxic to ahimals (in human amounts or at all) including tylenol, aspirin (vet recommended dose only), ibprofen, cough syrup, and others. Moral: ALWAYS check with your VET!

We give our dog aspirin when she is experiencing pain in her joints and we also give her glucosamine/chondrotin for her joints (she has arthritis). She also has a heart murmur and a thyroid problem and she gets dog medicine. Don't fool with major health issues. Contact your vet first.

They have been known to test medicines on dogs. I would not do it because you might give them the wrong dose.
