The portfolio that an artrist would use to go and see an artist agency to get an agent.

First off, are you talking about actual art work? If you're taking actual art to an agency, then it depends on how big your stuff is. You want to give the agency a well rounded taste of what you can do, but also you don't want to overwhelm them. Maybe a few actual pieces and the rest good quality pictures? You wouldn't want to stumble in carrying arm loads of paintings. Keep it simple. You want to look professional, not desperate. Hope this helps..good luck.

I usually show 10-20 but most reviews are from my web site. My work varies from represetational and Impressionistic to contemporary, pop, and neo expression, and I don't accept the notion that any one artist should have a singular style, even though many gallery owners are turned off by what they say is a lack of cohesiveness. I understand that they want to be sure a finished piece did not happen by accident, that the artist controlled the output...but I do not want to create an illusion that I focus on one style 'cause I don't. I cannot predict how one painting will develop on any one day. I have found some gallery owners do not mind that an artist has a multiple of styles. So, you may want to have two portfolios to show an agent if you have similar double or multiple vision: one for the stuffed shifts and the other for the enlightened.

I would recommend at LEAST 10 good works. Show varitety and flexibility in your work. I have about 20 or more, just for my own portfolio. It should be all works within the last 2 years. This shows your current work, which most buyers will be interested in.

10-20.... i actually do not recommend having a variety that you show to a gallery. Although you may have a variety of different work, you want to appear as if you have a signature look or theme, so only show the work that seems to go together....this is what curators have told me in the past and well it seems to work.
