We have raised her carefully in our traditional, atheist sort of way - and now this?!? Her best friend even called her doll JESUS! What's next?

Yep, imaginary friend moved out about 2 years ago. In fact it was Pete's dragon Elliot, who used to fly next to the car on the way to nursery. :)

Children pick things up all the time from sources outside the home. Maybe she heard the terms from TV or from a friend. Besides, hope and charity are words that do not conflict with an atheist. I mean, you can be an atheist and still have hope and still be charitable. Faith, yes, that might conflict with your belief. Why don't you ask your daughter where she heard those terms and if she knows what they mean?

Really? How sweet! Maybe she's taking the best of religions, without the bad aspects of it. I wouldn't worry... Well, a little about FAITH, but that's it. Hope and charity are good universal values. And as long as your daughter knows what is behind those things, I think she'll be okay.

And mind you, I'm an unbeliever, too.

Luckily a child does things in all innocence and tends to 'go with the flow' of whatever peer group she mixes with at any time. Hopefully she will rename them something more akin to reality in a few weeks.

You will, however, have to get worried if she continues this sort of mumbo jumbo when she is old enough to become a prospective intelligent adult as it will probably indicate that she is insecure and easily brainwashed. Then you wont really have a daughter that is able to steer herself.

No. Worry attracts tribulation like a great magnet.

BTW. The correct order is Faith->Hope->Charity.
And of these three: great greater greatest is charity.
Charity never faileth, as it's neither great nor greater.
Which is to allegory say Grace is not Mt 22 Law Law.

TgooLJCwya. Amen.

Oh my gosh, maybe she'll even discover the truth that, there is, in fact, a God!!! Horror of horrors!!!
Well, you could sit her down and explain to her the horrors of hope, charity and faith, and refuse to let her ever see her best friend again. Or you could accept the fact that your daughter (and the vast majority of the world) just might believe something different than you do.

My brother had an imaginary friend growing up, no longer believes in it. She'll realize the truth about the time she stops believing in the tooth fairy.

raise a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it.

wink!

ur atheist? so u believe u jumped down from d sky, have u sat down to think how man came to be, there must be a greater being than us human, don't u agree? if we evolved from monkeys how come no living being (ancient and modern) has ever witnessed an ape turn to human, moreover why are people born by people, why do we not just become humans from being former apes, i can go on and on with questions, but please understand that if u don't believe in something, u will fall for anything, God might be speaking to u thru ur daughter, d words hope, charity and faith mean positive things, don't the? wat would u have felt better with.................hate, torture and slaughter? u need some serious thinking and a reconsideration of ur values in life.

Maybe your daughter wants more to her life, maybe a more spiritual upbring that will make her feel there is hope, charity and faith.

Your child may be raised atheist but she feels the power of Gods love - and it probably came from you.

Hope, Charity and Faith are un-atheist or what? Maybe Jesus is a cool name, no big deal.

Maybe it's a case of : "Have ye never read, Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise"? Matthew 21/16
