Is there a difference between a coffin and a casket ?

Not really. Both mean a container or box. I think casket is used as a euphemism.

It's called a casket after someone is put in it.

Coffin is something you do when you have a cold. Casket is something they put you in when you are dead. :).

No, they are the same thing, just that "coffin" is kind of old school terminology. But they are the exact same thing.

it is one of the same (both for a body) except that a casket was used to hold jewels as well----------
