There are three types of tests:

The Antibody Test

The Antigen Test

The DNA or RNA Test

In brief, the Antibody Test examines blood to see the current state and count of the antibodies in the blood stream. The Antigen Test looks for the specific P24 antigen which is a sign of HIV infection. Antigens are the "Flags" that attach to HIV and provoke an antibody response. The DNA or RNA Test actually test for Viral DNA that matches the HIV strand.
