Yes, it was indeed King Solomon. It was all a test to determine the true mother of the child. Of course, King Solomon would not have actually have it done, it was just a test. Truly God blessed that man with great wisdom.

solomon. One woman claimed to be the mother, the true mother gave up the baby instead of seeing it cut in two. Solomon knew that one that would make the sacrifice was the true mom. Funny thing though, I think that it didn't have to be the birth mother, just the one that had true mother's love in her heart.

King Solomon was give supernatural wisdom from God. One of his first judicial decisions was to find out who's baby belonged to who. A prostitute and a wife had babies. One night the prostitute rolled over her baby, killing him. In a fit of grief she sneaked over to the wife and swapped babies. In the morning the wife naturally threw a fit claiming to the whore that the baby she had in her hand was not her baby. It was then they convened in front of Solomon. The only way to find out whose baby was whose was from the reactions of the women when he order a guard to cut the baby in half. The whore said, "Do what you have to do," whereas the real mother beseeched Solomon to give the baby to the prostitute. Solomon then and there knew who care the most for the baby...the real mother!
