Well, my neighbor across the street has 4 dogs. All pits (Sugar, Honey, Haze, and Berry). Sometimes he'll let one dog at a time off the leash or out the kennel. But the dog NEVER goes out his yard. If the dog sees me walking my two dogs or something and he starts walking over, he'll say, "Ah ah, ...Don;t you go there..." or some such other small correction, and the dog turns around and stays in the yard... I don't get it. And he JUST got Berry a few days ago, and Berry already listens to him and doesn't go out the yard... None of the dogs are fixed. They're breeding them. Haze is the only male, the rest are females... And also, when I rollerblade with my dogs, some people have dogs in their yard and the dog will bark or run up to the edge of the yard, but won't ever leave it. And no one's around outside witht the dog... I highly doubt it's any kind of electric fence or whatnot b/c many dog owners here barely take care of the dogs, much less spend money on an electric fence...

Dude, I'm always around. I'm homeschooled and am here 24/7...

Heheh, yeah... But they actually aren't exercised frequently. They might walk them around the block once every few days or something, but nothing more than that. I know them and talk to them, although I've never talked to him, just his soon-to-be wife, Ms. Cassidy. =P

Oh, I forgot... When they walk the dogs, the dogs will pull their a**es off! Sooo, pack leader? ...Heh...

No, believe me, there's no invisible fence. B/c a time or tow the dog /has/ actually crossed the yard line and gone out into the street, but went back in the yard after the guy told the dog something...

Nah, there's always stray cats around here, and they never go after them. And they actually have 5 little kids of their own. Their dogs are good with them. =)

That gentleman has mastered the art of being pack leader..I always admire people who seem to do so, so easily..He would be a great tutor for you to get to know!

Sounds like your neighbor has trained his dogs very well. He is the leader of the pack and they know it. They know what will happen if they don't listen. I have an invisible fence for my pits and it works very well. I've also trained my dogs that they can only leave by the front door if they have a leash on. I can leave the door open to bring in groceries and they will not step out of the door. They just sit there and wait...

Well, your neighbor could be the exception in the neighborhood and spent the money on an electric training fence. But since you also said that the dogs listen to voice commands~they have probably had dog behavior or training classes. If you ever have the chance or opportunity, ask him!

He has VERY well trained dogs. They are probably VERY well taken care of and exercised frequently. It is not very easy to do but with loyal breeds such as he has it can be done for the love of the dog. I would go up and shake that man's hand. He is a good breeder from the sounds of it and is helping to get the bad named breeds back in there rightful place. It proves that owners have alot to do about how their dog behaves.
Plus ask him... if he has spent that much time and effort on training his dogs I am sure he would love to brag about it.

pretty impressive...
beleive it or not he is the pack leader, and has at times repremanded them for leaving or getting too close to the yards end.. maybe you havent seen it all the time but if he is indoors doing basic obedience with them - then the pay off show up outside

I do think he should have fences really as a safe guard. becuase what will happen to another dog who enters their yard.. or a cat.. or a kid? now not all Pits are "killers" but still as an owner I woudlnt want to give my dog the opportunity

as far as pulling goes.. he hasnt taught them not to.. so they pull but he has taught them not to leave his yard.. so they dont

not often does this happen but at least he has managed that

I have a pit also. He knows the yard's boundaries and knows not to go into someone elses yard. We did not teach him to do it he just always has. They are VERY smart dogs.
