I love deep fried turkey. I like it more than roasted turkey only if I am not cooking. Those turkey fryers scare me - always afraid I'm going to tip it over.

Yes. We Deep Fried One Turkey last Thanksgiving. It was good. It was something new to try. We also Roasted a Turkey and had everyone take a vote. Most people prefered the roasted Turkey. But having a Fried Turkey is a great conversation piece!

I've never deep fried a turkey, so I don't know the exact ins and outs on how to do it, but I've eated them several times. I like it much more than oven roasted turkey. My favorite part of a turkey is the crispy skin. The skin turns out nice and crisp when its deep fried. Plus, I've noticed that it takes far less time to deep fry a turkey than to do it in the oven. Downsides would be the mess of preparation, the danger of all that hot oil, the expense of the peanut oil, and I suppose its not as healthy that way too.

OH MY GOSH!
It is the best tasting of all time!
We bought a deep frier for outside,
and the results were outstanding!
I was concerned at first about the bioling over of the oil,
but if the turkey is thawed properly, it did not FIZZLE
too much. There was an initial biol up, but the oil was
not high in the containre, so it just spattered a little.
We used canola oil, I have heard that it works well with
the friers.. we did it outside as well! What a great
Thanksgiving!! (2 years running now!)

We do alot of deep fried turkeys in the south, the skin on them is crispier, but i think oven roasted is better. If you cook them right they are more moist than the fried.

It's terrific. But messy.
A turkey cooked long and slow in a water smoker is also excellent method, and will always be tastier and more tender than an oven baked turkey.
In fact, if you try smoking or frying your turkey, you will not want to oven-bake a turkey again.
Oven baked turkey are, well, boring.

Onion salt
Lemon salt
Garlic salt

For outside of turkey: Season All to taste
Rub all over outside and into the cavity. Let sit in refrigerator overnight.
Wrap turkey in wire harness for easy handling. Fry turkey in wire harness at 300 to 310 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes. 4 minutes per pound.

While it was juicy, we missed the drippings for gravy, and the stuffing wasn't there in the bird of course. The peanut oil was very expensive. (about 30.00$) Not the best idea we had on thanksgiving. We wouldn't do it again. We also didn't like all the extra calories, there are enough from the pie.
Happy holidays...

You need a very big deep fryer to be done OUT DOORS it is very unsafe to do in doors. 1 & a half Gallon cooking oil, heat up cooking oil and place the Uncut whole bird in. Be careful the cooking oil is HOT! and will splash.
We have it evey Thanksgiving.
