I believe in a higher being but not in the bible.
People still follow it when we can prove it wrong in so many ways.
Evolution for example I asked my friend (a Jehovah’s witness) we have so much evidence for it like... variance within species...his answer "oh no we do except variance within species just not evolution"...my response..."that's convenient...to accept something you can't deny"
I'm not saying evolution has been proven but we have so much evidence for it.

It's funny coz god followers are proved wrong so many times...
The world is flat.....um no it isn't
Ok the world is round but all celestial bodies orbit it...um no we orbit the sun.
....Ok our sun is the only one with planets orbiting it...ever heard of peg 51.
If you're wondering where the bible says any of this then you need to broaden your horizons and read about Aristotle or Galileo Galilee

and this Jesus guy you all praise why do you celebrate his birthday in December when he was born in October? seems to me most of you don't know your own religion you're just brainwashed.
Heaven is prettier than the thought that you are just an organism that is just going to die...so i can see why you allow yourselves to be brainwashed

Because..................... they have not reached that wonderous pinnacle of intelligence that allows them to remove the insecurity still within them which succumbs them to the falsehood of the human animal being something else.

Evolution was not proven because we did not watch ourselves evolve from an apelike creature to the apes we are today. that is the only thing keeping it a theory- nothing else. Evolution has been proven in everything.
Variance in species is all environmental and survival of the fittest. The gene pool is filled by survivors to strengthen the species.
Intelligent people believe in god because their brain cannot comprehend any reason WHY we are here (because there really is none). This is where religion gets its chance to step in. People can accept whatever they want to. This tends to lead to confusion because no two people think alike. The simple proof needed to understand this concept: why was christianity never heard of in Japan or the Americas until it was brought there. Why was it exclusive to one part of the world- did god pick favorites? Why didn't it spread along with all the inbreeding (adam &eve's children) migrating people? In other words, if man knew about god all along, and we are the decendants of two people; then why was Judaism and Islam so centrally located in one area of earth?
An intelligent person wouldn't be able to answer this without specultation.

Part of your answer is illogical. Evidence implies that you have in your hand proof. But you're saying that there proof and no proof at the same time. Which one is it?
Who said that the JWs are Christian? They are a cult, which means basically that if you don't join or quit their "sect, then you are annihilated. Orthodox Chrisitianity expounds that we live in an age of grace (God is letting us make it in our own outlaw lifestyles) until there comes a time in which you will come to meet and know him (hopefully today...because when you die, IT WILL BE TO LATE!)
Can you prove, right here, right now, that you have a brain? I know you do even though I can't see, because obviously you're writing. So I'm going by FAITH that you have one. But with the stuff that is around us, the trees, sky, animals, etc., how can you say that there is not a "higher being", and if it isn't God (which is His name) who could you differentiate between the two?
A famous evolutionist atheist (I think it was a Stephen Braun) told his compadres to stop arguing for the concept, existence, etc., of evolution, because they, the atheist evolutionist, HAVE LOST EVERY DEBATE! Let's face it, it's unproved, it's unprovable, and it is impossible! But go ahead a believe in it. Does definitely takes a lot of faith to believe in it, even more so than that higher being called God!
There are more intelligent people who believe in God than you would want to admit!

your question may be more complicated than you realize. while the more fundamentalist religions will preach the bible as it's written, and uninterpretable and close their minds to anything that doesn't fit whether proven by facts or not, the more reasonable ones (and yes, despite mistakes in the past, catholocism is included in this category) teach that, while inspired by God, the writers still wrote from their understanding of the world at the time. so animals can probably evolve. and what's to say that that's NOT in accordance with God's will or nature with which He created everything. as for people having evolved from some kind of primate species, i'm still not sure but science has also traced human dna back to one single woman who lived somewhere in africa i think. it was on the discovery channel. Eve? finally, i have a question, with all the beauty of the natural world, and how ingeniously and intricately it works, how can you believe there's not a God or some higher mind that made it. can you really tell yourself it all happened by chance?

We have no proof for evolution we do have proof for natural selection. However, what happens is that the assumption that since natural selection occurs that the logical conclusion is that during a great period of time that evolution will than occur. That is not so, for evolution to occur gene mutation must happen.
Gene mutation (as evolutionary texts do say) is often negative (think skin cancer) only 1 mutations out of every 100000 is either neutral or positive. Also, the problem is that the mutation must occur in the reproductive cells in order for the mutation to be passed on. Otherwise you can mutate the rest of the body all you want and yet nothing will be passed on.

ONLY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE CAN BELIEVE IN GOD.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THE FOLLOWING:-
The concept that puts Hinduism apart from other religions is that of Incarnations of God (called 'Avatar').
The 1st incarnation was Matsya (Fish). This corresponds to early life forms that lived only in water.
The 2nd was Kurma (Tortoise) This lived in the water but could also live on land. It also had 4 limbs
The 3rd was Varah (Boar). This was one of the earliest land animals.
The 4th was Narasimha (Half-man-half-lion). This was the early man who was still half man half beast.
The 5th was Vamana (Dwarf). This was the early man who was rather short and better than the beast.
The 6th was Parsuram (Man with axe). This was the early man able to use simple tools.
The 7th was Rama (Man with bow and arrows). This was the hunter gatherer man.
The 8th was Balaram (Man with a plough). Now man had learnt to grow crops to feed his family.
The 9th was Krishna (Modern Man). With the increase in the population, wars ensued and Krishna guided the righteous to victory.
The 10th will be Kali (The bionic-robotic-man, yet to evolve). This is the final incarnation.
Does this not seem like Darwin's 'Theory of Evolution' as applied to man.
This is also why people think the Hindus have 'so many gods'.

I am glad you acknowledge that intelligent people can believe in God. Your statement about it being so illogical to do so has no merit however without a substantial explanation for how you have come to that conclusion. Maybe the same logic that explains how you can champion evolutionary naturalism while at the same time say that you believe in a higher power. Aren't those two ideas mutually exclusive? Also there is absolutely no conclusive evidence proving this antiquated evolutionary theory so you need to stop pretending you know what your talking about. Explain the discrepancy in evolutionary theory in light of the Cambrian explosion in the fossil record...of course since you know so much about philosohical naturalism, you no doubt know what I'm refering to right? Before you try to match wits with those who are educated in both evolution and intelligent design perhaps you should consider arming yourself with abit of intelligence your self.

It would be illogical not to believe in God. The bible has been proven over and over to be historically accurate. As far as evolution goes, to a very minor extent we evolve we adapt to our environment but we didn't develop from a one celled organism or anything. I suppose if both Theories were taught more people would see that creation was the more logical of the two.

We are not soley logical creatures. Our emotions are powerful. Who is not moved by the story of Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa?
I was taught evolution and Christianity side by side at school. I accept both. Science is cool but it does not explain everything. Its like telling a fish that has always swam in the ocean about microwave ovens. To a fish its impossible, they can not even see beyond their own watery world.
What is our world? Are we a speck of dust on a giants kitchen floor? What are we for? Are we like ants? Truth is we do not know and may never know. One thing is for sure. We will all die and we do not know when or why.
I like to think I will see all my dead loved ones again rather than oblivion. I like to think I will meet Jesus Christ!
I only have hope and faith and thats very human. (Logic is fine for vulcans!)

Ha...ROY is obviously the kind of defensive god follower you're referring too...
and some info for you ROY...evolution and belief of a higher being are not mutually exclusive.
I agree with everything Thyroid says...and belief in higher being...there is too much order in the universe for there to be nothing and then there's the whole universe expanding into area what area? Fascinating. But I do not believe in a higher being in a god/bible sense.
Religion holds us back!

Not all Christians believe in the "literal" interpretation of the Bible. Catholics, for example, believe in the "spirit" of the words, not literally what it written.
It probably wasn't 40 years, but a long time in the desert. It probably wasn't 40 days and 40 nights, etc....
The Catholic Church has accepted the idea of Evolution as a possibility. It's only the Fundamentalist churches that denounce anything that is against the "literal" Bible. Even Jews take the literal interpretation with a grain of salt.
Good luck.
