you don't understand what you're saying
that is a contradiction in itself
if you are a true Christian you have been saved and it is you life-goal to live as Christ-like as possible
if you say you are a Christian but you keep sinning and use God's grace as a crutch that crutch will fail you in the end. You never really got saved because there is a transformation when you are truly saved

NOTE: BELOW IS A CONTRACDICTION OF WHAT SHE JUST SAID

we all sin even after we get saved and He will forgive us because He knows that we sincerely want to sere Him

NOTE: IT'S LIKE SHE'S SAYING IT'S OK TO DO WRONG BECAUSE GOD WILL FORGIVE YOU

No- she is saying just the opposite- we cannot justify sin by saying God will forgive, we can just keep living the way we have been. At the point of salvation, the sinful things that seemed good in our eyes will no longer seem good to us, we will no longer want to do the things that we did before and the sin in our lives will no longer be acceptable to us. The fact is, though, the change is a process- there are things that we have practiced for so long that they have become habit- if we are intent on practicing these habits, relying on God's grace and forgiveness (making excuse for and justifying our sin)- then we make a mockery of what Jesus did on the cross, but if we strive to avoid the sin, and obey the Lord because we are saved and not for salvation, then we can depend on His grace when we are weak and when we fail. We are still accountable for our sin and must truly repent (repentence goes far beyond just saying "I'm sorry")
It is not contradictory if you look beyond the surface- we look at the outside but God looks at the heart- but even an athiest can understand the difference between doing something with malicious intent or doing something and not really caring about the consequences to others or having a surface sorry and truly understanding the ramifications of falling into temptation and truly feeling sorry and having a heart and intent not to go that same way again.

I think Deborah was trying to talk about two different types of sinning. There's the type we do repeatedly and habitually, without trying to overcome it. If that is the case, I would say someone has not truly accepted Christ as their Lord.

If someone struggles with a certain sin, but they are trying to overcome it, then I would say they may have accepted Christ as their Lord, but struggle just as everyone does.

This, by the way, answer another question I've seen on this board, about the homosexual Christian. My answer would be, which kind of sinner are they? Are they the kind who acknowledges their sin of homosexuality, and are trying to overcome it (with God's help)? If so, even if they slip occasionally, I would say they are a true Christian. On the other hand, if they deny their practice is even a sin - maybe even saying it's good - then I would say they definitely are not a Christian, because they are fighting against God and have obviously not allowed Christ to be Lord over their life.

The person who says someone must be completely sin-free to be a Christian is self-righteous and biblically illiterate. The person who says one can sin freely and still be a Christian is self-centered and rebellious, and biblically illiterate.

now a days people are under this idea that you can sin all week and be bad and hateful and mean and then go to church and all is forgiven.....No it's not. I have stopped going to church because I see people do this, it bother's me a great deal because this is not what christ had in mind.

We are forigiven when we get down on our knees and we confess our sins to Jesus and we stop doing those sinful things. That is not a green light to continue that behavior. Jesus says time and time again in the bible go and sin no more, he does not say, okay tomorrow go be as sinful as you want to be and on Sunday all is forgiven. It just does not work that way.

Now, I'm not going to say all christian people are like this, because there are those christian people who pick up their cross daily and try and live a clean life, they are good decent loving people.
But then there are those who are nasty, have bad attitudes, will curse you out in a second, talk about your mother, steal, do drugs, drink until they pass out, sleep with your man, and go to chruch on Sunday and think they are pure as the driven snow. Those people have missed the ship comepletely. They have not a clue.

Churches don't talk about the Devil, and they need too. He does rule this earth. Also Jesus is not stupid, he knows your heart, he knows what you are thinking and doing. Many people are going to be very disappointed when they don't make it up to the pearly gates. Churches do not stress that now a days. People are getting the wrong message and you can tell by their bad behavior which is not acceptable.
I will be the first to tell you I am not with out sin. But I will tell you that each day, I strive to be a good person, I try to do what is right and to behave and conduct myself in a good way.
I've never understood people who can go to church and as soon as they get home they are cursing, beating on their spouse, cheating, getting major attitude etc...that is not acceptable behavior for a christian. People really need to wake up.

Have you bothered to ask her what she meant by this or are you just using it to trash Christians?

There is no contradiction in her statements. In the first, she was talking about a willful habitual lifestyle of doing one knows is sin and then say...God I am sorry and expecting it all to be OK. It is like giving your child a credit card to get things they NEED and then finding they are maxing it out on parties and toys. They are taking advantage of their parents even though their parents may have to make many sacrifices to be able to help them.

In the 2nd situation she is saying that if we have found that we have sinned, there is forgiveness. This does not mean the first can not be forgiven, they will be but at a price...they will be chastened. (see link below)

As Christians, we should make an effort to live without sin. The bad news is, we fail because we are sinners by nature. God forgives us but this is not an excuse to continue in the same sinful behavior.

I guess you are too smart to understand we simple Christians. Do we sin, Yes. Do we live in the sin No.. Those that do are false Christians. Those of us that are saved though we still fail repent (turn away from the sin and back to God.) We confess our sin and God cleanses us of all sin because of the blood of Christ. Is it wrong to sin, Yes but we still walk in our flesh which is the body of sin. I believe the lady said it was her goal to become Christ-like, that would indicate that it's a work in progress... No, it's more like you're just picking on a newbie.

Grace isn't an excuse to continue sinning - it's a gift for when we do sin.

Continuing in a sinful lifestyle is a pretty sure sign of a nonexistent conversion. Occasional sins are a pretty sure sign of being human...

We are all sinners, but that does not give us license to sin. Jesus specifically tells us to do no evil.

3 John 1:11
Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Will we still do things that are wrong - yes! But, every time I think of a wrong I have done, I think of Jesus' death - each evil is yet another stripe (whipping prior to His crucifixion) that was caused by me and I weep. I should not sin. I try not to sin. I fail. Thank God, that He is faithful to forgive my sins! So - NO NO NO we are not getting a free pass - we should not even think of forgiveness in that manner.

Not at all. What I'm sure she means is,we all sin and fall short of the glory of God.Even after we are saved ,we sin every day.John says (in I John)" If we say we have not sinned ,and do not sin, then we are liars ,fooling ourselves. But when we do,Jesus is faithful and just to forgive us."
See ,you have a total bath when you are saved ,then after that, you have to wash up now and then...get it?
