My grandmother's first husband died. Then she married her second. I understand. You thought you could rely on god, then he disappointed you. So you married a man.

For Roman Catholics, nuns are in a sense wedded to Christ. it's not anything quite like an Earthly marriage which are sanctified by God - he is a part of your union, but not your spouse.

Yep. I'm married to a lovely woman...truly the best woman I've ever known. I'm also very much a religious man, who puts God above all things...even my wife.
You have to look at it this way. If you have kids, you'll understand this quote I learned from my father:
"If you want to make sure you love your kids properly, love and take care of their mother. It's the best gift to give your kids".
In turn, if you love God, he'll increase the love in you...that you'll eventually share with everyone. You'll send it to your spouse first!
Good luck.

If your husband or wife asked you to kill someone. God being first in your life says thou shalt not kill. You listen to God not your spouse. You follow God's path, not your spouse. Your spouse is your companion on earth, but God is your companion for eternity.

and for men god is suppose to be the first wife and the woman they marry the second or doesnt that go the same way??? doesnt sound that good, does it? nuns are married to god but monks are just devoted to god. like if god actually had a sex. anyway i thought only monks and nuns are supposed to have this kind of relationship to god, since it is considered an exclusive, mystical "erotic" relationship. cosmic people are suppose to experience this kind of love for god THROUGH love to their partners, children and neighbours.
ps. i m an agnostic but i still remember very well the theory of christian mystic.

Surely. As Christians, we are the bride of Christ (pure for the marriage, etc.). He is our first husband, as we remain true to Him until death.
Your spouse is your "second" husband, picked out for you by God (Sort of a fatherly thing to do, huh?).

Maybe the following 2 verses will help...
Jesus retains the top spot in your heart when you get married, your spouse is secure in 2nd, knowing that Jesus is #1.
